Rajesh Khanna rubbed quite a lot of people the wrong way, and one of those was Javed of the Salim Javed duo, who had written Hathi Mere Sathi. Thus these script writers also gravitated to the other rising star and started writing for AB, which could also be a cause of his decline, though Javed Akhtar has stated he did not specifically work to bring down Rajesh Khanna when the angry young man persona was developed, but it did play a part. I think the stars today are more grounded and scientific. They keep the various directors and script weriters in good humor, and when they give flops, analyze the reasons such as changing tastes, moving markets etc, and then respond accordingly. See how Salman Khan who also gave a slew of hits in 89-91, then was flop for two years and only came back after 94 in HAHK, and agian after Tere Naam was almost gone, with movies like yuvraaj and Jaaneman etc in mod 2000s but came back with redefining himlsef with action movies like Wanted, Dabanng to enjoy the best phase of his career. Similarly Akshay, who was striking gold until Sing is king, and then came the flops, which he has recently reversed with Rowdy Rathore and Housefull2. These guys may have possibly hired market analysts etc.Although other than thses aspects, these stars also are very disciplined, and take care of their looks and bodies far more, and never excess alcohol.I wish Kaka could have have done the same, and given his talent he oculd have easily retraced back to success.
Legacy of Late Mr.Rajesh Khanna is about those songs which , even after 500 years people will be able to enjoy and relate to. Gem after gem songs. Fabulous lyrics, fabulous acting and fabulous music. Master pieces all.
Rajesh would have delivered another 50 superhit movies during 1975-80,but for Amitabh's mad efforts to get himself establshed and trying to remove Khanna from the scene which clicked.

rise and fall are the most common phenomenon of everybody's life. not to blame AB or anybody for his downfall.

ab could have never became a star if it was not for dharamendra and his elder brotherly affection for jaya...
brought in a revolution in hindi film music and KAKA very well lip synced the lyrics of anand bakshi.THANKS TO ALL OF THEM we still hear their melodies.
The clean romance of Rajesh Khanna in those years and the vulgar romance of Imran Hasmi we see today in Bollywood films clearly shows where we are leading to.
Unlike Amitabh Bachhaan who is even today cashing in on his brand power because of his glorious past performances and charisma, the same cannot be said of an even greater superstar like the late Rajesh Khanna. Kaka "threw away his legacy" as he could not change his mind-set nor control his actions and emotions in his latter years. All said and done, thanks Rajeshji for entertaining us in your outstanding years as a hero, only by which we want to remember you always !

Toughness and romance are two different styles of these heros. While RK was romantic AB was tough. Romance fades with years but toughness remains for ever. That is the forte of great AB.

You have to evolve. If people say that they will not use computers today just because they managed fine without it 10 years ago, they will lose out on opportunities today. Hard fact of life - you have to reinvent yourself every few years to stay in the game
