NEVILLE GANDHI
Excellent Write-Up on Rajesh Khanna Era
by NEVILLE GANDHI on Jul 20, 2014 10:10 AM

Thank you Ms. Sheela Bhatt for such a sensible write-up on the state of Films today. Excessive Violence, Abuses and Negativity is gradually harming our society. I too am a big Rajesh Khanna Fan and still unable to accept his passing away. RK (Kaka) has left an indelible mark of his Romantic Style, Histrionics and Mannerisms on us. Rajesh Khanna will Live Forever.

Era Bygone
by Rahul Agnihotri on Oct 29, 2013 01:32 PM

Times have changed very fast and are changing especially I guess after liberization in India. People only want money and for that they are ready to work until death I guess keeping in mind today's jobs but are they getting peace of mind, they are getting sick bodies for sure. Generation X or Y whatever does not want to waste time listening good lyrics or great tunes, they want just fast paced tunes similar to what the life now has become. It is sorry to see that while trying to become more westernized, we are not taking their good things such as work culture and civic sense but bad things such as being self centered and instead leaving our good things such as family values and respect for elders and just running and running for earning money. We do not have time for enjoying good things in life, good things are always good that nobody can deny such as Rajesh Khanna singing a romantic number sung by Kishore Kumar. Another thing is innocence is totally gone from life, lot of things are responsible but look at the politicians and the corruption and gap between rich and poor which is increasing by the day and the frustration with the scheme of things going on are responsible for the violence to be validated on the screen by the young I guess. Young now have to struggle many times more just to make the ends meet than we were when were young and the aspirations have increased too. Again, we have left our Indian philosophy of "Santshee Sada Sukhee" behind.

romantic hero and times
by s kumar on Oct 29, 2013 12:32 PM

though i was more into the Amitahbbachan era in school days ("angry young man")later i started seeing RK films and became a huge fan of both romantic as well as musical hit films. It is true today the sublime and romance seen in earlier films is missing now .it is more of -six packs -size zero-facebook -mobile -syndrome. thanks for the nice article but let us not blame the present also. Anyway the modern age cannot be same as past. !! it has its own different charm for our children !!

rajesh khanna, The super star and the era
by harsha a on Jul 24, 2012 08:29 PM

Rajesh Khanna was the original superstar, and ofcourse had some flaws like any other human-being. The only superstars India has seen...RK, AB, Dr Rajkumar and RajniKanth. Rest all are just stars or pseudo super-stars or wannabes AB/RK. Dr Rajkumar is an odd man out here, as he was the only singing superstar India produced(after Saigal), who could create mass hysteria. Amithab Bachan had more flair and grace in his acting and personality. RK's core was being passionate, celebrating romance and emotional feelings, Dr Rajkumar had more drama, emotions, humility and fantastic singing talent and RajniKanth was purely style and dynamism. All 4 were great. It was all original talent! The era is gone now.

The greatest

Yes i do recall the phenomena called RK. The speed at which he rose. The frezy he created was unheard of and AB himself had said once that there has been only one superstar ever about RK. It was his luck that AB came upon almost at that time which saw him going downhill about which he was reasonably uncomfortable. Anyone in his position would have been. For sure the heights that RK touched are unscalable

Mr. Amitabh is more in acting than Rajesh. So don't say because of Indira Gandi.

Rajesh Khanna

I felt extremely delighted watching Rajesh Khanna romancing with the most beautiful heroines. What a great combination of such an impressive action of Rajesh Khanna and the golden voice of Kishore Kumar?

Farewell Superstar
by Hayat on Jul 21, 2012 05:01 PM  | Hide replies

Rajesh Khanna rubbed quite a lot of people the wrong way, and one of those was Javed of the Salim Javed duo, who had written Hathi Mere Sathi. Thus these script writers also gravitated to the other rising star and started writing for AB, which could also be a cause of his decline, though Javed Akhtar has stated he did not specifically work to bring down Rajesh Khanna when the angry young man persona was developed, but it did play a part. I think the stars today are more grounded and scientific. They keep the various directors and script weriters in good humor, and when they give flops, analyze the reasons such as changing tastes, moving markets etc, and then respond accordingly. See how Salman Khan who also gave a slew of hits in 89-91, then was flop for two years and only came back after 94 in HAHK, and agian after Tere Naam was almost gone, with movies like yuvraaj and Jaaneman etc in mod 2000s but came back with redefining himlsef with action movies like Wanted, Dabanng to enjoy the best phase of his career. Similarly Akshay, who was striking gold until Sing is king, and then came the flops, which he has recently reversed with Rowdy Rathore and Housefull2. These guys may have possibly hired market analysts etc.Although other than thses aspects, these stars also are very disciplined, and take care of their looks and bodies far more, and never excess alcohol.I wish Kaka could have have done the same, and given his talent he oculd have easily retraced back to success.

Yes what very very sick is that Salim Javed is two of the disgusting people ever.. Rajesh Khanna was the ONLY person who gave them the break and then they just totally left him and started working with his enemy.
