whats so great abt Agneepath? As fuad rightly said, just overacting by Mithun and Amitabh. I still get shivers when I think of Mithun's overacting. poor copy of Godfather

Amitabh too was intolerable and too artificial..I hope this one will be better. Ignore psychos like Murli who always attacks others' view just because it does not match with them.

Agnnepath(Original) is a Phoenix of Indian Cinema
by Murli Devi on Jan 23, 2012 03:21 PM  | Hide replies

Bappi Lahiri had copied the Jumma Chumma tune, and a fierce quarrel had occurred between Lahiri and Laxmikant Pyarelal, where Bappi had stolent he tune of Jumma Chumma s Tamma Tamma. In order to prove their point the song was recorded fast and Thaanedar was released ahead of Hum by a couple of weeks.
Thandedar never released with Agneepath.
Also Agneepath is class apart movie..and those who liked it also know it how many times they watched it...none of agneepath fan did watch this classic one or two times but more than 50 times. The reason is the perhaps its one of the few movies in Indian cinema which was terribly ahead of time..from performance to style, to cinematography to screenplay...everything was first time ...however at that time a bad taste for movies were prevailing and people like craps like Dil..which if u watch today would put in trash. 2-3 Rape scenes were mandatory in those time..and sexual undercurrent with perversion was demand...it reflected even in magazine articles published during this period where most obscene magazines made their ways. Chastity, Debonair, Broad Minded, Dafa 302...to name few such magazines.
That was culuturally lean phase of India too, where political disturbances with poor governments, reelections, Mandal and Bofors etc. Public was disarrayed...till DDLJ and HumApkeHainKaun happened and gave respite to emotions.
Times passed things changed and reality came that Agneepath was much bigger and beyond the capacity of that era.

What bunkum!!Those days were culturally lean phase because of obscene magzines such as Chastity, Debonair etc.? What about now? We have leading english newspapers replacing these magazines. India's leading english newspaper gives a blow by blow account with pictures of Poonam Pandey stripping, the same newpaper's website has all sorts of photos which leaves almost nothing for imagination. Atleast in those days, these kind of activities are considered to be amoral and indecent. But thanks to our media (especially english media), which has give legitimate stamp to all these. Talking of 2,3 rape scenes, how can we have them when leading lady is ready to drop her clothes and share her bed willingly. When pre-marital sex, extra-marital affairs, one night stand, drinking binge are shown to be normal today, I am not sure how you can refer those days as culturally lean.

To understand what I said you also need to have some sense of psychology. Basic Instinct too was released in that time, but I did not call it vulgar or obscene. The undercurrents tell all. Why do we need to show rape on screen ..where it clearly comes out that some sadistic pleasure is being drawn? Don't u find any difference between a rape scene and a love making scene? Why not love making scenes but why rape scenes were must there?
The difference is the sense of Taboo, which was there at that time and today...and then its not bad.
Culturally lean, ..particularly that period, when everything was at lowest. Not in early 80s or 70's or before that...but particularly this period when any common man was not clear about his status as an Indian...to watch an almost XX movie on the name of cinema,,,this article names a movie Police Public, a real story based Rape crime investigation movie...where lots of kinky scenes and sick kinky scenes with dummy was inserted...or to beg on street because our PMs were changing everyday, our Gold was mortgaged in world bank, when unemployed youth has all of sudden swollen and street goondaism was at heights...where u saw movies being funded and bollywood almost run by Dawood Co. Amitabh, the years old next to God hope of people of India, was dragged into Bofors, creating another step of nowehereness in psyche...the number of rapes, elopement, crime against women and street goondaism were maximum reported during this era.

Ghayal was best of the lot. It is still all time best action movie of bollywood. Apart from that Pratibandh & Appuraja were also good. Others were just average.

Ain't a classic,Just a B-grade cult movie..
by jaguar on Jan 23, 2012 01:21 PM

Well,Agneepath ain't a classic.. rather it's a B-grade cult movie.thanks to doses of mindless melodrama during the time when creativity was dead in bollywood.. Even the names of the movies released in 1990 would make you cringe!! thankfully, that dreadful era is over for us. however, it makes no sense atall to remake 'Agneepath'. Its good that Mithun's character (Naariyalpani wala) has been scrapped.. that would been absolute torture.. :-D
