He should not allow other directors to make movies on Feluda as he makes excellent Feluda movies . Others will totally mess it up. No one knows Feluda better than Sandip Ray as he is the creator's son and is more familiar to Feluda than anyone else in the world. He is the right heir. Others should learn from him as to how to make entertaining movie by simply applying outstanding script, screenplay, cinematography, acting and background score and without any women characters.
I have not heard the Ray theme for Feluda. But if you are referring to the background score of "Paa" as inspired from Ray's music, that might be a wrong assumption. Music Maestro Ilaiyaraaja with 800 films and a few symphonic scores (including one with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) to his credit is an acclaimed genius in his own right. He himself has expressed his inspirations with J S Bach in his instrumental album "How To Name It ?". So it may be a case of common inspiration with added creativity and not as you thought out.
Satyajit Ray was such a genious that though the world knows him as a film maker but he was such an outstanding triller writer, is not known to many outside Bengal. Infact in our childhood or teenage we were introduced to Ray through his 'Felu-da' than his 'Pather Pachali' or lot of his Classic movies. And the author is spot on that the two Felu-da that were made in films by Sr. Ray is miles ahead in every aspect than the films made these days by his son. Rather some better directors like Ritiporno or Goutom Ghosh might have done more justice to the brilliant stories by Sr. Ray.

Please tell some one not to do Feluda on the Bigscreen,The two Created by Satyajit Ray will remain as two of the greatest thrillers .also please dont ask that goutam who has been below par ever after he made Anjarlai Jatra & Par ,to redirect feluda, and also let rituporno stay with his/her feminish films
I read through Sumit Bhattacharya's article with interest and it seems Sumit is trying to show off his own knowledge and his sophisticated approach in other words being a snob. The Feluda series is meant for the unsophisticated, imaginative, travellophile middle class Bengalis, whereas Sherlock Holmes enjoys world wide repute amongst its English readers including ofcourse India. Now we go to the movies not to compare or critisise but for pure entertainment. Sandeep Ray is doing exactly that playing to the galleries for a large Bengali audience not an international one, yet its already receiving some international curiosity, because Royal Bengal Rahaashya has a raw thrill dealing with a mysterious man eater and hidden treasures. The story has nothing to display that Feluda is a master detective as great as Holmes, but he does have his own logic and intution when solving crime stories. The best compariosn to our classic Sherlock Holmes and not the modern one, is of course Byomkesh, another Bengali detective character. Sandeep Ray has to manage his film on a shoe string budget and has to rely on facilities best available to him in India. Yes, I quite agree that Shabasachi Chakraborty the actor is too old and pot bellied to play the role of Feluda. I watched this movie at the theatres and I enjoyed it, after all I paid Rupees 300/- each for a ticket, to enjoy and to be entertained. I have not certainly watched the movie for free as some journalists do.

Dear Mr. Roy
It seems that you have got it all wrong about this article. As per my understanding, Mr. Sumit Bhattacharya did not attempt to compare Sherlock Holmes with Felu da. He was merely trying to highlight the difference of quality of earlier Feluda / Holmes with the recent ones. So, basically, the comparison is between Papa Ray and Son Ray and not between Felu da and Holmes. He merely pointed out that the making of Holmes movie / episodes have been adapted with the changing times, which has not happened in case of Sandip Ray's Feluda
