Mahendra kapooor was one of the best singers right alongside Kishoreda,Rafi , Mannade and Hemantda but filmy politics never gave him his due
Numerous programmes were done commemorating others but very very few for MK
His voice smelled like rural india and his passion behind his musical notes made us sway on the tunes.
He also made some star famous who otherwise had limited skills and talent and would have gone unnoticed otherwise.
His son has the same timber of voice - once in a private function I heard him but MK was unique and shall outlive our memories
A great soul too - his benovelence is known in the industry - sharing tea and coffee with the smallest artists , lending money to any one that approached him.
I remember a music director quoting- Salla first time mein dhun pakadta hai - doosi bar sunana nahi padta
His stints with marathi songs were a cult - famous even 30 years later -
Such was his greatness - our loving Mahendraji long he live our memories
Stupid rediff calling him a famous singer of 70's and giving example of "neele gagan ke tale" which came in 1967. Mahendra kapoor was already famous in the 1960's with movies like Dhool ka phool (1959), Gumrah (1963), Waqt (1965), Hamraaz (1967), Kismat (1968) and others. This article goes to show that rediff thinks the readers are some highschool kids who know nothing about hindi music of yester years.

Totally agree...the 2nd page has a bigger blunder - Mahendra's contemporary was Talatsaab (Talat Aziz!) - not Talat Mohammad. How can rediff be so naive about readers' knowledge?
