Gandhi - My all time favourite film
by Ravi on Feb 25, 2012 03:25 AM

Its true that great films are made once in a lifetime. The quality of 17 years of research shows up clearly in the masterpiece movie. Its part of my all time collections. I watch this movie at least once every two years to understand the importance of freedom and admire the great sacrifice of our forefathers.

Its really sad that a film on Gandhiji is made by a foreign director. But full credit to the director. Its a benchmark periodic film, very very very difficult to parallel with.

=======================

she has done a great job in gandhi and as an fetched an award as an indian. she is more than welcome to return the trophy as its her prerogative. but the whole talk seems to be skirting around "ME MYSELF & OSCAR". to quote kapil dev "our world cup win was far superior than dhoni" leaves the same taste when she talks about the newcomers. its calling changing times.

Inferiority complex

Indians have an inferiority complex. So they hanker after foreign awards & recognition more then awards & recognition of their own country.

True to some extent. But in India the awards are given only for mass movies and rarely for actual talent. So they are not much worth. It is always blockbusters, did you ever see small-time movies getting awards in India like Oscars? Piano, The Reader, gay movie Philadelphia, mentally handicapped Forrest Gump etc. These are classic movies and some of these are rarely blockbusters. But talent is awarded. In India filmfare is all about lobbying or mass appeal. National awards are given only for favorable political affiliations. The OScars may also have some limitations but not to the extent as the Indian ones.

And whether they hanker after foreign awards or not, westerners in general never come to know about it at all !!

And whether Indians die from their exertions at trying to ape the westerners down to the last little detail or not, westerners in general never come to know about it (and neither would they ever care or notice) !!
