If convicted, Saif and others could be punished with imprisonment upto seven years besides fine.

How come the actor was booked under lighter, bailable sections of the penal law?

In India, the rich and powerful are a law unto themselves; they think they are above law - and in many cases they are proved right. If justice is done now (I doubt it) it will send a good message to others.
