2001: A space Odyssey

2001: A space Odyssey wasn't even nominated is not a shock.Rather this highly boring film with people speaking for 2-3 mins in the entire film was a obvious decision taken by the academy.

Listen, I know and you know that Raja Sen of rediff gets it wrong. This isn't a revelation. This is, however, about the times Raja flounders big time, the biggest of them all, when he judges for Best Picture Oscar awards,
Here's my list of 10 truly deserving Oscar winners featured as undeserving in the above list:
English Patient
American Beauty
Titanic

Oscar Award doesnt necessarily mean the best
by vijay M on Feb 14, 2012 10:42 AM

English Patient, A Beautiful Mind and Shakespeare in Love are less than worthy movies that have won the Best Picture Oscars.
But ideally Oscars are not the place you should look for the best movies of the year. They are the movies that people working in Hollywood think are the best because they are voted by them and so it gains importance for people working in the industry.
Look for the films that has 80 % or more on Rotten Tomatoes or the top 10 films by the best critics.

It's easy peasy writing for Rediff!

Raja Sen - did you just do a combo of several such lists available online and from better critics than you?! What a comfy job you have dude! I understand that names will overlap but you playing it so safe shows me what shoddy "research" has gone into this veritable fluff piece. And having derided what you call the "schmaltzy" movies, you failed to add Slumdog Millionaire here - the most OTT, melodramatic, aimed-to-reel-in-the-Oscar-crowd movie ever! I guess that's because none of the western lists you were "inspired" by, dared to list SM in there. For shame Raja Sen...and Rediff - make your so-called journos do some real work for a change please! Finally, the inanity of a fight Club being called oscar worthy - hilarious! (Btw, I don't have a high opinion about the Oscar's - just wrote that last line since Mr. Sen seems to think it's some kind of hoy grail!)
