Loss of Connect.
by Upendrachar rajagopal on Dec 17, 2012 11:18 AM  | Hide replies

Perhaps pavithra is trying to grab attention by writing such reviews. The movie is relevant for those who can connect themselves to the events that unfold in the silver screen. Unfortunately Pavithra does not fall into that category. This is not for those who relate love stories to Romeo and Juliet. I personally rate NEP better than VTV as the perodoramce of the lead artists were far better tham that of VTV. Pavithra, jsut try to interact with students and you will come to know how relevant the film is.

Well said this review is absolutely wrong. The movie has been taken very well not just concentrating on love but with a message that career is also very important. Only the climax & few songs in 2nd half are bit repetitive. Otherwise it is a decent movie worth watching once with Ilayaraja's music glittering as gold in both songs & BGM.Neat movie meant for the elite people.

Take on NEPV - beautiful movie
by LR on Dec 15, 2012 09:37 PM  | Hide replies

Came out of the movie wondering how does gautam manage to capture the minute details of life/ relationship & present it such an entertaining way.Starting with puppy love where adamant kid doesn't want to speak with friend over a silly fight to school infatuation where possessiveness dominates to college love where differences arise when objectives in life start diverging - aspirational guy vs a girl still living in the moment (scenes where they split are bit of drag, agree)
Emotions potrayed are unadulterated and presented with an artistic touch. Final break up and climax are realisticcaly crafted - where both are right in their totally different perspectives and neither is unable to appreciate others'-Classic(Not many would agree).
Both and Jeeva carry off their roles to perfection - particularly scenes where they are unable to express their feelings to full, get restless and start expressing feelings they actually don't mean. Equal credit to the director for their acting(Well,no mention required about the director who controlled simbu's overacting in vtv).
BGM and songs are icing on the cake and in parts the cake itself.
Santhanam is as hilarious as always. every second he is on screen is fun riot.
NEPV is slow in parts but u r too immersed to care.
Not a fan of romantic movies (not cliched)but wouldn't mind watching the movie once more.
Surprised to see a 2.5 rating. definitely deserves atleast a 3.5
Gautam reinforces his place as the best contemporary tamil director

You just read my mind. This movie is good (though not a great classic) and can be seen in a theatre comfortably.

Gautham watches more hollywood movies to copy some of the romantic scenes.I don't know why he uses more English Dialogues in his movies...

Gautham being the best contemproary director in itself tells us our films have gone back to stone age..of course for our audience , who are used to to c crude, crass movies of simbu, perarasu, vijay, shankar, ajith etc , Gautham looks special... but to be honest guatham is the bare minimum expected standards of a film maker..

Both of us are fans of tamil cinema.. wanting it to improve.. so thats ok if we are into and healthy argument.. Perosnally feel Shankar is an expensive crass..his prefernce for lews humor, relying on too much glamour from heroine, repeating the same themes over and over. is not to my liking..

Just saw the movie. It is not disappointing as said in the review. Typical Gautam menon movie. Pavithra should watch movies more than once before writing a review.

To Ramesh Bharat and all tamil movie bashers
by abc_xyz abc_xyz on Dec 15, 2012 02:53 PM  | Hide replies

I have been reading all your posts here and your point that Tamil cinema isn't upto Bollywood can only be laughed at. Lets not talk about NEPV ..I haven't seen it and it might be an avg one.

But overall quality of Tamil films have skyrocketed. I am saying this with utmost modesty. What are the Hindi equivalents for the following class Tamil movies
1. Chennai 28 (2007)
2. Peraanmai (2009)
3. Pasanga (2009)
4. Aadukalam (2011) - THE BEST MOVIE
5. Eeram (2010)
6. Polladhavan (2008)
7. Paruthiveeran (2007)
8. Kalavani (2010)
9. Subramaniapuram (2008)
10. Naan (2012)
11. Madrasapatnam (2011)
12. Aranya Kandam(2011)
and Mass big budget movies
13. Enthiran (2010)
14. Dasavatharam (2008)
15. Ko (2011)
16. Maatran (2012)
17. Thupaakki (2012)
etc.. (can't remember all)
The more rooted your film is to your culture, the more global it becomes. I can show all the above movies to a Global audience and they’ll be able to accept it. That’s the beauty of Tamil cinema.
How many of the so-called National Bollywood movies can claim to represent the true North Indian culture? Anurag Kashyap has openely stated that, it was because of tamil cinema, he was able to make good sound movies and relish success.

there was time , when we made fun of bollywood movies.. that was say 15- 20 years back.. now the fact is bollywood and gone much ahead of us and during this period weve gone backwards.. many creative ideas, offbeat movies do come out of bollywood, while we still churn out boy loves girl, good wins over evil, kuthu songs kind of crass commercial entertainers..

Have you ever seen a glimpse of Naan Kadavul & Nandhalala ? Bollywood can only import movies with ideas from Hollywood & deny easily it is not though.Don't make assessment with 1 or 2 films from Tamil.Watch the right movies & then comment please.

Aravind.. i am afterall a fan of tamil cinema.. but weve got to accept the truth.. bollywood seems to be improving becos they are able to cater to a wider range of audience.. whereas tamil cinema is still confined within a state, that still idolizes film stars..give them all sorts of titles, build temples, fan clubs.. the i.q of an average tamil fan is pretty low and naturally our films are also pretty low.. no that i.q of bollywood fan is high.. but as i said becos of the bigger market they are able to reach out a wider range of audience

U could be one out of a crore all across India saying Bollywood is superior to Tamil cinema.A legend like Amitabh ji told Hindi film industry has to learn a lot from actors & technicians from TamilNadu. I think Amitabh ji knows little more about cinemas than u or me or anyone else.If you say Nandhalala is a copy, what about Munnabai,3 idiots - ? I saw kikujiro which is in no way related to Nandhalala.. please get well.

Businesswise, Bollywood is much bigger than Kollywood..But that doesnt mean they r great in all aspects.. In qualitywise, Kollywood can compete with bollywood, no other words..I think, tamil cinema currently balanced with commercial and critics movies..check out the so called 100 crore box office movies, Except 3 idiots all other movies are craps..s that mean i.q of north indians is low?..The same average tamil fan, who encourages the films like Paruthiveeran,Poo,subramaniyapuram etc..Today Bollywood is a place for earn money, fame etc not a creativity.. But still some r tryin to giv a good movie..

How come there is no backlash from Gautham's pseudo intellectual
by ramanujam srinivasan on Dec 14, 2012 09:02 PM  | Hide replies

Usually when I criticize any Gautham Menon,Selvaraghavan or Kamal Hasan movies...The pseudo intllectual fans jump at my throat telling me "You have no knowledge in cinema","You must be a vijay fan" etc etc....

BTW,I hate Vijay's mass movies...The general public are now in a mindset that being a Gautham's fan is cool and urban...But all he does is have a good cinematography and inject lot of English dialogues....

His dialogues in VA and VTV were so artificial, like a child reciting in a school play....and just because Simbu cuts his hyperacting doesnt mean it is masterful acting....

Just like Big FM Balaji says, watch the movies for the money you give and dont start judging people and pointing others just because they like or dont like the movie which is of your taste...

Every movie has its own critics,if someone criticize the movie...Look at its face value,if you feel its not right, just leave it...Dont start accusing others

And ungal manathu punpatirundha...I'm sorry
