Most of the people commenting here, have not stepped outside India, so they do know know what it means to be an Indian American living in states.

Indian Americans celebrate both 4th July and 15th August. Indian American care about Indian culture/values more than Indian living in India. I would like to know how many Indian living in India treat 15th August more than a holiday !!

You should go and attend Indian festivals/Independence Parade in states and then you would know what exactly these event mean for Indian Americans. Looking at pictures and writing irresponsible comments is far too easy !!

You are right;but the motive for the Indo-Americans celebrating 15th Aug is different;it is as if they celebrate their independence from the khoroopt hyndian rule.

If same thing would have been allowed in India i.e. celebration of another country day there would have been riots. Here they restrict even festival of other states then forget about other country

In a way you are right but if in India we allow this perhaps the first thing that will create problems is celebration of Pakistan in India which indeed would be number one foreign celebration, followed by celebration of Bangladesh.
Are we ready for it?

The good thing about US is people celebrate their days but they are more loyal than the king else they will be treated with iron boot.

2nd: It's great culture to not to allow people from one state to live & earn in other state. Have you ever see anywhere in the world when people from one part of the same country do not allow to live peacefully in the other part of the country?

They are not Indians now. Most of them are US citizens now. It is like burning crackers when Pakistan wins cricket match against India.

You should understand that in USA they still allow you celebrate your Independence Day and take out parade, that is why it is great country to live in for humans.

Stop this nonsense
by Abhijit on Aug 20, 2012 07:56 PM  | Hide replies

The Indian community settled in US are educated and they have chosen US as thier destiny with wisdom. They are not immigrants or refugees.

Now even second and third generation is staying there happily.

They should stop the nonsense of celebrating India's independence day. Rather they should celebrate 4th July.

They can preserve their culture by celebrating Diwali or Pongal but not definitely create loyalty issue by celebrating 15th Aug.

I am Indian and do the same thing as you suggest. These people are hypocrites and should not be allowed to live in USA.Think about it, that if US and India play a cricket match and all Indians earn money in US and use full system of US with their US passports cheering for India, how local US people feels about that? same way we feel when Muslims in India burn crackers when Pakistan win against India. I do mind if Muslims do that in India when I was Indian citizen, so same way I should not cheer for India also when US & India play against each other.

Well said SHANE.
I suggest all the people settled abroad to respect the laws, and culture for the respective nation and don't stand out separate from the mainstream.
