I didn't know that ...I thought all these years, Malayalam cinema had neven won any national award and was not liked by the audience. Thanks for enlightening us with this wonderful information suppandi.
Mollywoods was once a powerhouse production of world-class movies. Their golden era was in late 70s and 80s, when many classics were made. Nowadays, the industry is a pale of shadow of itself and is failing to attract generation-next audience, who have switched their loyalty towards tamil films. Tamil movies starring big stars release big in kerala to the extent of eating the malayalam industry market. Also, top malayam directors like Priyadharshan, Siddique have also shifted their base to other industries. Its high time, something is done to restore the golden era of Malayalam Cinema. Incidentally I am not a malayalee.

Shakeela movies were made for the sake of voyeurs in the neighbouring states with titillating titles and mostly played only morning shows they were said to be made in malayalam taking advantage of the fact that malayalam industry did give rise to many serious and critically acclaimed adult movies comparable to those made in the West.
