"She is said to have demanded that he should not use the gun to threaten their son or her"

well, that means, he can threaten her with belt, stick or whip. Doormat much!

Agree completely.

Ambareesh, who is a horrible actor, a stupid person, a failed politician and man who can down a bottle of scotch in one go, should not try to be a judge/jury/executioner.

He's a moron. he should accept that, he's a moron with some clout and try to restrict himself to his house.

Jaggesh is not a Gowda. He's a Lingayat.

Exactly right! Ambareesh and his attitude of trying to protect the filmi brotherhood is totally wrong. In India everybody tries to sweep things away under the carpet. Darshan should be sent to jail for 3 years for threatening a 3 year old kid with a gun what a loser!

Shruti Indira's Reporting & Command of English Writing
by MADHU BACHAN on Sep 09, 2011 07:00 PM  | Hide replies

Ms. Shruti, You come across as a very good Reporter. But your command of English & penning your thoughts to relay the information to Rediff readers, is very sophmoric ( 8th or 9th grade level). I am surprised how this article escaped Rediff editors. Please New York TImes, BBC online, and other reputed News Papers to form proper sentence structure, thought flow and simple sentences without 'jerks'! For instance, just read the last but one paragraph, Vijaylakshmi... Do me a favor asd ask your editors, what wrong with this sentence. Unfortunately, with the advent of Internet News, Indian readers have become sophisticated english readers and most of the Indian Reporters have fallen behind in Proper English Reporting. RULE#1: DON'T WRITE THEY WAY YOU THINK. RULE#2: ORGANIZE YOUR PARAGRAPHS. JUST DON"T WRITE WHAT POPS INTO YOUR HEAD. YOU WILL BE ALL OVER THE MAP WITH YOUR THOUGHTS.

rule 3 .. ppl should read and keep quiet .. if they know great english they will actually have a real job and write articles for good editors instead of joylessly commenting like this ..

While I agree that Shruti's writing is Sophomoric .... as per US (which invented the word Sophomore) the word is used to address a 2nd year student of a 4 year Bachelors degree. NOT 8TH OR 9TH.

You have rightly said her sentence formation is bad and I agree.... But can you EXACTLY pinpoint mistakes????
Coz you did not.

There is a BIG difference between finding a mistake only AND finding a mistake and giving the right alternative to that mistake.

You just did the former!

Again, this is Rediff.... as everyone suggested.... Read for news rather than English.... coz you will find endless articles with mistakes.

Welcome to the World of Rediff!

Do you realize that writing in "ALL CAPS", is considered not appropriate. It accounts to shouting.

Well I have to say that her writing appeals to the lowest common denominator. I am not justifying bad English, but I dont find her writing to be grammatically wrong.

A writer should know his/her audience and Shruti is doing a great job. Also, I assume it is the editor who has the final say on the structure and I agree the rediff editors and desk does a bad job.

Madhu, u r concentrating tooooo much of English. You maybe 100% right, but u r diverting the matter of domestic violence to some unwanted english errors. Do u think Rediff has quality reporters? If that was the case, Raja Sen would be kicked out of the job long ago....!
