I have 15 gb of music in my laptop and i have listed them only in two folders. One is ARR folder and the other is non ARR folder :-) Guys he strives for excellence in each and every song he works for. Thats why you see 210 messages in this discussion board crying about some of his missed out best tracks. Also I noticed some petty fight over ARR and Ilayaraja. Although Ilayaraja is also a genius like rehman, Ilayaraja has composed many dumb songs completely unlistenable and boring unlike ARR's music album wherein each and every song which is carefully constructed after burning several hours of MID NIGHT OIL. So guys in the end I would say ALL the ARR songs are best and he is the best :) Thanks for reading :} I would love to see your views :}

In early 80' & 90's Illayaraja used to make 25 to 30 movies a year, and all the movies went to become a super hit and remembered by the people till date.. but AR Rahman made hardly 2 movies a year.. Infact AR Rahman made 6 movies a year (in 2001), and 4 of those are just dumb.. NEVER COMPARE ILLAYARAJA WITH AR RAHMAN

if anyone is able to understand the music of Illayaraja then he will never compare him with ARR. As far I know, ARR has also got trained by Illayaraja and I personally believe that ARR has got his inspiration from him and his style of music which is depicted in his music. No songs of Illayaraja is dumb. the listener may be dumb so he cannot understand his music. just compare his music with today's latest music, listen to the tunes and then only you will recognise. but if you stick to your latest trend choice then you will not. ARR is famous because he is very rich and has all the sophosticated instruments and studios with which his musics appear very fancy/dashing.

hardly any of ARR's songs are remembered after a week. not even the song "Chainyya Chainyya" which is more popular for its wordings are remembered today. everything old in this world is getting deteriorated day by day, so is the music. take examples, food, clothes, household items etc. old time cupboards were very strong and thick woods and latest trends are only stylish and very thin woods. so that is the difference between old and modern.

Dude, pls grow up. You are comparing a legend who has composed for more than 1000 films with a kid like ARR. 10 yrs down the line, people will still listen to the songs of Nizhalgal, Mudhal MAriyadhai, Kadalora kavidhaigal etc and not much to ARR's. ARR's songs will soon fade away from memory unlike Raja's

I agree that IR is a great composer.. but that doesn't not make AR secondary.. they have earned their respect and have achieved a lot in their time.. AR has been far more successful in catering to a global audience n it shows in his music & results obviously.. I think it is unfair to pit them against each other, when they have immense respect for each other and have achieved so much individually..

u forgot non-hindi, and even in Hindi u forgot Taal, considered finest of Rehman's work by many. What's the hurry to publish articles.. dont u want a better reputation?
Veerapandya Kottaiyile and Chandralekha and Thee thee and Rasaathee.. and Puthan puthubhoomi Vendum and Kannum Kannum Kollai Adithaal.. are my all time favourites of ARR.

Exactly. Thiruda Thiruda is his best in Tamil. And I would even go to say "Veerapandi Kottaiyile" is probably his best ever!
Note that I listen to both hindi and tamil songs of ARR.
