Crisis was always there in Malayalam movie industry. Still the industry is able to survive and produce some quality films. See the selection of films to Indian Panorama 2011. Out of 24 movies, 7 are from Malayalam. Don't say that Jury chairman is a Mallu and so the selection. The chairman was film maker Sai Paranjpe. So the Malayalam film industry will survive against all odds.
Retire the jaded and aged so called Superstars who churn out substandard stuff every week and charge astronomical fees for that. There are tons of talented newcomers who can give us much better stuff at a fraction of that cost. This years biggest hit (Return to Investment) is Salt and Pepper which has been critically acclaimed also. In fact instead of decking that fatso Lal out with wigs and tents converted to shirts cast guys like Dileep or Asif Ali for better results.
