now a days it is not a difficult task for a movie to get the tag of a hit movie because of buisness in multiplex, ticket rates are too high there,thats why amir khans movies like rdb, tjp, dch and lagan were declared hit, but if u compare these movies like ddlj,kkhh,kkkg,hum apke hai..maine pyaar kiya...mohhbatein, gadar, sholay and many. amirs movies are nothing(in terms of no of admissions) infront of all these blockbusters, only 3 idiots can be compared upto some extent

Please note all the movies you mentioned were from times when number of movie releases were limited, number of theatre were limited and number of means of entertainment were also limited. They were no doubt great movies (acutally some in your list) but this was the chief reason they continued for ages in some theatres. And, amir is a rare hero who combines commercial and critical successes
