I have too seen this movie but people forget that making a movie means you have to be pulled back in your seat for the reamining time though you know the plot and the story. I hope taare zamin paar was much better than this. It had all that needs for a good oscar. I hope this filims are just a craps and are ok for the west. i think hoolywood should actully learn from indian movies. Specially from tamil movies, pls dont mistake me for robot and all but there are good movies like Mayna, rainnygunda and so on to be listed these movies are good at script and less at budget but awesome to have a look at.
pathetic review.... the way in which the movie is rooted in it's culture is by choosing British actors for British characters.. The reviewer is one of those who would enjoy all the Oscar winning movies and IMDB top 250 movies without even bothering to look out for the genre.... and would relish blabbering about that extremely complicated movie to get the feel of an intellectual....I have not seen King's speech but do not feel like watching it after reading this senseless piece of pseudo-ism...
Just watched THE SPEECH. One of the worst movies I have ever seen. Is it a movie at all? It appears to be a filmed drama with mostly static camara with a couple of Hollywoodish special effect thrown in. Frankly, I feel that this film is more about those who feel cosy if a story about their monarchy is presnted with who so ever stands in for the monarchy. Minus the respect for THE KING, why would someone sit through? Oscar is the ultimate prize for all Indians. That is why most messages here are supportive of this aweful venture.

Movies are to an extent "filmed dramas" . Moving cameras and special effects don't compensate for the basic job of cinema , to tell a story and this movie does it well . Colin Firth was awesome and he did deserve the Oscar . I don't think a liking for this movie is in any way a desire to glorify a monarchy . See the movie for what it is and not what you want it to be .

Having watched all the movies in the best picture category ,I had placed my bets on The Kings speech ,maybe because im a sucker for period Drama,or maybe because the subject of the underdog (even if its a royal breed)triumphing against all odds has always stuck a chord in me .All said and done i felt the performance of Firth and Rush alone was worth the admission. But have to agree with you on the point that this reviewer sucks.

When Oscars are given to even a mediocre performance in general,no one will question that.At the same time, when it is not given to exceptional movies, still people won't question.Example : An amazing movie like "The sixth sense" did not receive even 1 oscar while ordinary movies like The ghost,Slumdog millionaire and tons of such movies received more than 3 oscars. That shows we are very much inclined towards oscars and think whatever they do or award is the ultimate.'True grit' was not that good to have even got nominated. But it got nominated in 10 categories (no matter if it won or not).Is this what is oscar all about nowadays ?

wrong statement. The movie is more humane than monarchial. Touches the basic human feeling of under-estime.
