@blueray neelathamara was one of best movie directed by lal jose. in modern movies u may feel that there is nothing in it bcos most of the movies where derived from it. but the way it was presented was so touching. it was abt a young man how he cheated a maid in the house which might have happened in most of the places during that time. innocent maid who trust and completely believed in young boy and on the other hand he was just doing some time pass. I never expected the movie will be so beautiful even though we have seen so many similar stories. It was so touching. If u see jj abraham super 8 you may feel the same(ee padathil onnumilla ennu). but as a whole that movie is very good.

correct. neelathamarayil onnum illa. no super stars, no glamour heroines, no fights, no dialogues, no item numbers, no comedies. and hence it's a bad movie.
and I told "I liked" neelathamara. I never imposed that on anyone else, neither did i force anyone else to like it. ninakku ishtapettilengil venda.
and i don't know whether you've seen neelathamara or not. It's about an affair between a young man and a maid in his house. It's really tough to visualize it in modern world. Young maids almost don't exist, that too a beautiful one.

@axxo : Even I felt the same. It was so touching. But why are you wasting your time explaining the beauty of that movie to these kind of people. They can never understand. It's for these class of people, movies like Pokkiriraja, Sagar alias Jackie, Christian brothers, China Town etc are made.
You make them watch the Oscar winning movie Rain Man (1988), they'll tell it's a boring piece of shit, cos there is nothing in it. But when you Indianize Rain Man by raping its script and adding some masalas, you get Alexander the Great. These people will like it and appreciate it more than Rain Man.
When I watched Neelathamara remake, I liked it more than the old one. I expected the same and watched this movie yesterday. I must say, it's a senseless movie. First of all bad direction. Secondly the teenager doesn't look like a teenager. He has the mustache and beard of an adult. Even though in the movie it is clean shaved, it's very visible. Thirdly there are some hints in the movie which imply that Rathi is 25 yr old. Very hard to digest the fact that there were 25 yr old unmarried woman in 1978. Fourthly, Swetha Menon looks like a 35 yr old aunty. She doesn't look sexy according to me, as she was in other movies.
Instead of copy pasting the old one, they could have created a modern story happening in the present. They just tried to do what lal jose did in Neelathamara.
The only good thing in this movie is Shammi's acting. I've never seen him in comedy roles. He did it exceptionally well in his own style and without imitating other established comedians. Whenever Shammi appears in the screen, people starts laughing in the theatre. I wish he does similar roles again in future.
I'd recommend family to stay away from it since 99% of the people coming to watch are men. Also don't take a girl for this movie. I watched it in a multiplex in Bangalore. I couldn't find not more than 3 women. So just imagine the situation in ordinary theaters in Kerala.

Producer Suresh Kumar is reinventing what his friend director Priyadarsan has alraedy mastered---repackaging sucessful movies. Priyan remakes them into Hindi and Suresh is picking up movies of 70s and making it 21 century stiff.
May be paucity of confidence, creativity and imagination, and cost saving is prompting this safe job.
The old classic had Rathi's seductive charm (Jayabharathi) and Papu's (Krishna Chandran)pristine innocence. In the new one the personas have been compromised.
Shweta Menon is used as a sexy vampire fuelling desire in the so called innocent papu. Here the new Papu looks no innocent but pretender ( may be a veteran of secret sex and a merchant of masturbatiion). Serious miscasting is made to rock the box office.
I am afraid this movie's success will drag Kerala bag to the wave of sex movies that started with Avalude Ravukal by IV Sasi in 1978 and destroyed Kerala's fame for creative cinema.
SM belongs to new generation of pornstar, she can outlast all yesteryear pornstars. This movie will definitely run for over 1 year cause, the sex elements are abundant, the old version definitely lacked it. The story might have the same ingredients, but the acts are intense. It wont be a family treat, it will be watched by all guys

well I say a bit of both...u need to be BOLD to be SHAMELESS... and ...SHAMELESS to be BOLD... goes hand in hand u see.. :-) Hope this answers ur question... :-)
The current generation is fond of the new meaning for "Aunty". And this is seemingly the bold story about a guy and Aunty. Obviously, the guy who wrote the review belong to old generation, cant digest newer version. Most kids who fantacise these days do not know the original. This is the movie, the current generation is looking for...story about Aunty.
This film will get viewers particularly young students because they are attracted to these kind of sexy films. I don't think a family can watch this film jointly.
