I think this was the last film,which ran for more than 50 days in cities like Madurai,where only 1% of the population know Hindi... Gone are those days,when Bollywood was d benchmark and many non-hindi folks watch bollywood movies even without knowing the language..
Nowadays,Bollywood is full of NRI shit and porn in the name of bold cinema...
and now South Indian movies are furiously remade in Hindi to get profits
Now that Bollywood producers rely so heavily on overseas market, will they ever want to make movies like, Sarfarosh, Gadar, Border, where you can bash Pakistanis openly.
Now because they want to release their movies in Pakistan also, they don't want to antagonize Pakistan also... would we ever get to see patriotic movies once again
Laggan surpassed everyones expectation in India by winning so much accolades all over the world. Usually, as Indian we try our best to imitate the western culture, how they dress etc. That's why many people predicted a movie in which the lead actor wears a dhoti could never do well in the Indian box office. But this movie defied such logic and showed we have many things in our culture that we can take pride in! Well done Mr. Aamir Khan for making such a wonderful movie which showed that someone can be succesful despite all the odds stacked against them.
I still remember the day both these movies released. Lagaan was carrying big hype created by media and Aamir Khan himself. Aamir was dancing on the road to promote this film but Sunny was sitting at home.But Gadar brutally defeated Lagaan in every circuit right from the first day. No one discuss about Gadar.
Gadar was also released on the very day... These ppl will never mention that... It was much bigger hit than Lagaan...Sunny vs Aamir XI and Sunny wins handsdown
