Iconic, But Not So Powerful
by Zoeb on Sep 11, 2012 05:07 PM

Admittedly an iconic film but not one of the best according to me. I think that Stanley Kubrick was a bit harsh on the characters. We dont feel anything for the victims of Alex but we are forced to feel some sympathy for him. That is not right. The man who takes revenge against Alex is condemned as a criminal in the film, though it is true that he has every reason to avenge it. The film is quite inhuman and I did not feel any strange feeling of pain or shock. Okay, it was well-shot but quite artificial.

This movie is another proof that the best of Hollywood was in late sixties and early seventies..

There was a time when I had "Thieving Magpie" as a ringtone

Disturbing
by Mukesh Bhat on Jun 03, 2011 08:41 AM

I feel more sad and disturbing than enjoying this movie.. I agree Kubrick has more things to get praised but I will avoid his movies after watching this one and full metal jacket.. bit sadist movies for me. Not that i won't like this kind of movies - movie like Schindler's list is also sad type but there is something in it. Kubrick - no for me just for feel bad factor, with due respect to his direction and creativity.

This movie had shaken me up
by Parichay on Jun 03, 2011 02:28 AM

The story telling and relationship with music was what I had never seen until then.
Truly a performance Heath Ledger kept in mind while performing "Joker".
Another film of this genre I will say is "Heavy Metal Jacket".

Hmmmm

Malcolm McDowell's performance in this one and Caligula would probably go down as one of the weirdest as a leading man in movie history.
As for Clockwork Orange, Kubrick made a career out of disturbing stuff only to end up with a tepid finale in Eyes wide shut...

hmmmmmm (bigger hmmm than yours)

it seems kubrick went way over your head...but then his films were not meant for the mundane masses. they were an exhuberant celebration of creativity. sadly anyone who calls eyes wide shut a 'tepid finale' cannot even begin to fathom that!

A very good article
by Sujith Rajan on Jun 02, 2011 05:09 PM  | Hide replies

The lack of any comments for this article shows that not many people have seen this movie. Its 40 years old now and older than movies like Sholay. I watched the movie recently being a Kubrick fan. It shocked me, shelled me and shot me into loving the way it was made. The music, colors, concepts and the actors were brilliant. A very well written analysis of the movie Raja Sen, I only hope we watch such old classics and make such movies in India. We need to mature as movie viewers, and the film makers need to make intelligent movies too. The reason being that we are intelligent audience and not the same tree hugging, running and wedding songs liking people. Thanks.

kubrick is the greatest director that has lived so far! right from barry lyndon to clockwork orange to eyes wide shut he manages to excel himself each time. who can forget paths of glory maybe the greatest satire of all time? and can any praise be enough for fullmetaljacket and dr strangelove?
sad that he had to die one day!
