Mental Illness and Stigma
by debakantab behera on Jun 01, 2011 11:03 PM

Its such an unfortunate tragedy, which speaks loudly about the Stigma attched with the mental illness and the difficulties people with mental illness suffer. It will be a great service to the country if Rishi ji and Ms Naval will take the issue to improve the awareness about mental illness and greater social resposibility of the society.

Its really sad to hear that his family has abandoned him and have put him in an asylum. How did they have the heart to send thier own to a Mental asylum. Disgrace on the family.

What is there to feel sad about? The article says that the family could not deal with his mood swings. Everybody has the right to live a quiet, peaceful life and there is no need to deal with other people's mood swings. Maybe he needed professional care and rehab and that's what he is getting in Atlanta.

It says abandoned, not admitted to asylum by family. He is taking care of his own expenses as well. It is indeed sad how brothers tend to act like strangers when it comes to taking responsibilities of extended family specially after Marriage. No one should marry

The word 'abandoned' was added by the journalist. Nobody 'abandons' grown-up adults. Only children and animals get 'abandoned'. Adults are expected to be responsible and support themselves instead of expecting support from others (including immediate family). Seriously - can't he find any job?

You seem to have forgotten that he was suffering from some mental illness. Dont you see mentally retarded adults roaming around half naked on the streets?

It is reported that Raj Kiran attacked the doctor. He asked why was he in the assylum when Rishi Kapoor / Ranbir Kapoor were outside.

Boss, Raj Kiran is ill and he is in an institution..Rishi Kapoor, making statements that he will get Raj to act in movies is the heights of insensitivity...I still maintain..Rishi too should be locked up ...
