stanley kubrick made dr. strangelove, spielberg made ET and produced Men In Black and Pinky and The Brain. even basu chatterji, the king of marital dramas, made chameli ki shaadi. even shyam benegal has made more "comedies" than serious stuff - look at sajjanpur, abba, mandi, suraj ka 7th ghoda, etc. i think all directors have masterful control over depicting human emotions. and comedy is just a part of it. so it isnt difficult for them at all.
In terms of humourous and family watching comedy, Hrishi da will always be remembered as one of the best director in Bollywood.I salute Hrishi da for his evergreen comedies.

He also made some under-rated movies like 'Bemisaal'one of my favourite He captured & brought amazing dimensions in AB's character. It's hard to forget such a great characterisation in his movies
