Storyline is the real hero
by gopi kanth on Jan 26, 2011 03:37 PM  | Hide replies

Nowadays Tamil people watch movies if the story is good and they dont go to theatres for Vijay, Ajith, Kamal etc.... flop movies like Aathi, Manmathan ambu, Aegan, Sura, Vettaikaran, Villu would tell u the truth. Bodyguard was good for Dileep's acting also but its sad that still vijay doesn;t know how to act. Its good for tamil industry that good movies such as kalavaani, angadi theru, nanthalala with little known actors such as vimal & myskkin are doing good when compared to flop actors vijay and ajith.

I don't accept the fact that Kalavani was a good movie - for the only reason that it promoted marraige (and subsequent child birth) of a girl who is not even 18 (she is a 2 student in that movie). I wondered how come it did pass the censor for showing something which is against law.

Before I give you evidence based on the movie, let me tell you that you need to mind your language as well as your english.

1. In the movie, the hero goes to the tutorial college to meet the owner. Tutorial college in TN are only for schools not for colleges.

2. The heroine is seen going to school in the uniform (Red color). Which college has uniforms sir?

3. The heroine's brother (Villan) goes to the same school to threaten certain teacher - again school is shown.

Please watch the movie again, but this time with your eyes open.

Malayali audience have not changed, its the directors and film writers who cannot keep upto the standard of the Malayali audience. Hence the flight of directors to other languages where they can sell off their substandard wares. Case of point: Priyadarshan

Exactly...The current crop of directors are producing such a horrible line up of movies in Malayalam, you cant blame the audience for flocking to non-mallu movies..
But to some extent i guess our audiences have also to take the blame..if the biggest hits of last year is going to include movies like "Pokkiri Raja" and "Shikhar", then the situation is not at all rosy :(
I just hope, malayalam movies would get out of this rot some how..praying for another Padmarajan to enter the industry!!

In my opinion, the Malayalam audience is to blame, especially the young crowd. The success of Pokkiri Raja is a case in point. I couldn't sit through the whole movie.

During the heydays of Malayalam cinema (Padmarajan/Bharathan times) we had a class audience.

You may be right that directors and film writers who cannot keep upto the standard of the Malayali audience. But that is not the reason for the flight of directors to other languages. Directors remake their films in other languages because people of other languages welcome their films. Never compare with the case of priyadharshan as he is now exclusively on hindi films because of some other reason and no more of his malayalam films may be in future also.

It's not as bad you make it out to be - there are quite a few promising new directors - Lal Jose, Blessy, Renjith, Ranjit Shankar(Passenger), Rajesh Pillai(Traffic), Padma kumar to name a few.

Any idea why most of the malayalam movies have English titles? Malayalam movies are known for new subjects, novelty and being natural but the way people name them looks very odd. I am a Tamilian and I have watched lot of Mohanlal's and Mamooty's movies and liked them. In fact I like most of the malayalam songs for their melody content.
