One And Only Great Aamir Khan
by Aurang on Jan 22, 2011 06:27 PM

It has by now become the norm to expect something “different” from Aamir Khan, whether it’s as an actor, producer or star. With a track record like 3 IDIOTS, PEEPLI LIVE, GHAJINI and TAARE ZAMEEN PAR it’s hard to deny Aamir Khan as a force to reckon with as he juggles a fine balance between the box-office blockbusters, critical acclaim as well as path-breaking, small films which also find their audience. DHOBI GHAT is quite easily the most “non Aamir Khan” film ever, and it’s odd to even suggest this, but at times, one feels he’s the weakest link in the film as this is through and through Kiran Rao’s vision. One must commend Aamir for being honest from the very start that this is an “art” film. It’s a film you absorb for all it’s inner intricacies and detail of the characters and requires much more emotional investment than say a YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA which serves an entirely different purpose. The type of attention required to view DHOBI GHAT is certainly not for the mainstream audiences who prefer their films in a more “traditional” format.

Great Movie Part 2
by Aurang on Jan 22, 2011 06:15 PM

The audiences feel that Prateik Babbar has done a terrific job in the film. The young actor has become darling of intelligentsia in his first major outing itself and expectations are running very high from him at the box office.

However, what irks the cine-goers most is the pace of ‘Dhobi Ghat’. The slow pace just tests their patience and they come out feeling somehow exhausted. They feel that the movie could have gotten tighter at the editing table.
Aamir Khan’s presence in the film, as reclusive artiste Arun, has given it a new high and the audiences were looking for the sequences with perfectionist Khan. As if they were reading a novel and skipping pages in search of that main character which interested them.

‘Dhobi Ghat’ is a film about the city of Mumbai directed by Aamir Khan’s better- half Kiran Rao. The film is reflection of Kiran’s feelings for the bustling metropolis and it was never meant to be a commercial venture. Kiran consciously made an art house cinema in ‘Dhobi Ghat’.

But fortunately for her, Aamir Khan’s presence was sufficient to make the film a viable project at the box office and it could recover its cost. Had there not been Aamir Khan in the film, it would have sunk like other films of this genre and never even recovered its cost.

No one can be jealous of ghates, who represent the lowest common denominator of humanity. Slumbai brings shame to India, which worries me...

Abey K.a.t.u.e. stop preaching good behaviour to people. You people have converted the universe into a living hell, and let's leave it that...
World will be extremely liveable without K.a.t.u.a.s and ghates...(and you are actually both, a ghatee K.a.t.u.a)...

You obviously are. No other explanation of your vicious attacks.

And the slums in Mumbai are 90% occupied by non-marathis.

Your attacks are good enough to show what fraction of humanity you belong to.

Don't worry about Mumbai its not you pops and even if you worry you have no say because you are a no body.

If you ghate people along with your state of Maharashtra, secede from India, Slumbai will cease to be my problem. But as long as you ghate people are part of India, Slumbai will continue to be an embarrassment for me...

Non-ghattes like you are morons and characterless jealous thugs.

Cure yourself of your worthless attitude and then you will be welcome in all places.

You get kicked because you are a characterless thug.

And don't worry I am a pure blood with very good upbringing and values. I have nothing to worry about.

You worry about your generation being part of the sleazy bhojpuri industry that you are obviously proud of :)

Good you confessed that you are a ghateee. Which according to all non-ghatees is the lowest common denominator of humanity. If you accept this, may be you can get cured. If you don't accept it, then no cure is possible..., it will continue for generations..

Great Movie Part 1
by Aurang on Jan 22, 2011 06:13 PM

Aamir Khan’s magic seems to have worked once again. His latest production ‘Dhobi Ghat’, which released this Friday, rocked at the multiplexes of metros with an excellent occupancy rate of around ninety percent, which was expected to go further upwards on Saturday, Sunday and coming Wednesday(26 January, and hence holiday).

As the movie caters to a niche audience, it was released selectively at around 325 theatres in the country. Kiran Rao’s piece of art got overwhelming response at the multiplexes but it was not so at the smaller centers who reported the opening to be around forty percent on its first day.

However, this figure too may go up as advance bookings are there for the weekend. In any case, given the small budget of Rs 5 crore, Aamir Khan’s production house is likely to cover it handsomely and also book some profit through satellite rights of the film.

The satellite right singlehandedly is expected to fetch Rs 8 crore for the producer. Then production house will also go for selling home video rights which will add as icing on the cake for Kiran Rao’s first outing as director in bollywood.

‘Dhobi Ghat’ has also been received very well at the international level. For instance, reports from UAE say that the flick even crossed the opening figures of Aamir Khan’s earlier flick ‘Taare Zameen Par’ as far a

Dobhi Ghat
by Rama Bulussu on Jan 22, 2011 05:37 PM  | Hide replies

Saw this movie today. It's an offbeat movie and fresh in narration and good directorial venture by Kiran Rao.All the four main characters did well in their roles. The film nicely captured the Mumbai...realistically.I would rate it with tree stars. However the over all story is a bit vague and not deep enough to convey anything in particular. On the whole a refreshing movie !

Its a useless movie. Mumbai is the worst city in India, and called Slumbai worldwide. It deserves pity, and not a movie which praises it.
