It is strange that hangal is not having anyone in his family barring his old son.
Nonetheless a very fine actor. I remember his roles in his all the films. Can you believe , he has done negative role in film "Kali Ghata"

This is a proof Bollywood is a sick place

I request youngsters to think 100 times before joining bollywood in any field technical of acting.
Its is a sad place for newcomers, u will get exploited for work and no pay.
if u are willing to lick butts only then u will find regular income.
Any educated person will waste his life here.
If ur uneducated and cannot get a job anywhere in this world then bollywood is the place.

Most leading film stars make crores for acting in a movie. If they could put aside 5% of the amount earned into a fund, professionally run,for looking after retired, invalid and destitute actors they could make an immense difference to these lives when there is genuine financial need! After all the same actors who are earning crores today could fall into bad times tomorrow and perhaps might need a helping hand then. They have to think seriously about such issues.Like cricketers most actors have a "use by" date and when they start ageing their acting roles become more difficult to come by and their money dries out. After all their existing lifestyle requiring constant spotlight to make them relevant to the producers cannot be down graded! This false lifestyle takes heavy toll of finances and leads many to penury!

Ak hangal is just a small e.g
There are lacs of technicians who are suffering silently.

They give lakhs and crores rupees to cricketers
by Anurag Sharma on Jan 21, 2011 10:02 PM  | Hide replies

These state chief ministers give lakhs of rupees to cricketers for making records.. And the chief minister could afford only Rs 51,000 for Hangal... Hangal can purchase only 5 Kg Onion with that...

Cine artist association has give 1 lakh in 3years... hmm.. that is only 33000 per year..

Shows the desperate state of affairs for retired artists

Cricketers earn and bring in millions int the country.
AK Hungal did not.
Although a fine actor, his acting did not benefit the country.

How much will you give to support?
By the way, have you ever given a penny to anyone in your life that you are trying to point at others?

The point is how useful is this money? Apparently, he needs medication of 15000 Rs a month. How far does 51K go? While it is better than nothing, it does not solve the problem; simply postpones it by 3 months.

People are still providing aid which was relevant to the economics of 1960.

Why is the Chief minister helping a movie star?

Nothing against AK Hangal but if an ordinary citizen is not able to pay his/her medical bills is the chief minister going to step in?

Uh yes Joideep. In the west where human life is respected and worth a lot more, there is something called free healthcare covered by the government that is accountable to its stakeholders, the citizens. Also, old age pension is a blessing here. Indian pension funds are pathetic (few exceptions obviously). Heck, we even get paid unemployment insurance if we lose our jobs due to layoffs etc. So, the answer is yes, the system should be designed to help the poor, to counter inflation and to promote humanity. Good for Amitabh who is helping Mr. Hangal. God bless anyone and everyone who comes to anothers need

There is no free health care in the west either, you pay through your NHS(National Health contributions)while you are working full or part time employment which then takes care of your health.

We should not forget that he was also an active freedom fighter before entertaining us all those years as an actor.
