What is so graet about Oscar Awards except that they have a big market for their movies. If Indian movies had a bigger market we would be calling the Oscar awards as CRAP !!!!!!!!!!!
The Oscars ceremony today had just ONE SURPRISE -- David Seidler taking the statuette for THE KING'S SPEECH over the overwhelming odds-on favorite and winner at many awards shows this yr incl last nite's Indie Spirits Awards -- Lisa Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg for "THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT".
Isn't it a given by now that once the guilds have held their own awards ceremonies, the winneres they crown will walk away with accolades on OSCAR nite ? Hence Tom Hooper, winner of the Directors Guild award wins BEST DIRECTOR, as does the film, which won at the Producers Guild.
For me, the performances of the year came from Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Z and James Franco as Aaron Ralston. Would it have KILLED the Academy Awards to look beyond physical defects in a movie character (Colin Firth) ? How about encouraging young talent like Jesse and James, infinitely more exciting ANY DAY than Colin Firth, and more in character in their films than Colin was ?
And for me, the Film of 2010 remains THE SOCIAL NETWORK.
The Oscars should be scrapped -- it's all abt following the voting patterns of awards shows that come earlier, esp those of the GUILDS.

more than the actors its the director who is more important for delivering oscar quality. For example Big B acting in Karan Johar's movies can never dream of getting nominated for Oscar because when the movie and his role is crap, there is no way Big B will get oscar. he might get best clown award for dancing with girls half his age like aiswarya for Kajara re. these look very silly and immature to oscar judges, hollywood critics and american audience
the problem is oscar awards are given on merit basis. but the films which are selected to be sent to the oscars for the nominations depends on the country's film industry, politics, lobbying, govt, media hype etc. obviously few powerful people like karan johar, vinod mehra, SRK, aamir, Amitabh control the entire film industry and have powerful contacts. so they put pressure and ensure that their crap movies are sent to the oscars on behalf of India and we know how corrupt our system is. It is at this level that India is losing a chance to win because films made by unknown and small time directors are better than typical commerical bollywood crap but these are the movies which are being sent to the oscars and obviously they don't stand a chance. If you see the past, always movies belonging to superstars like SRK, Aamir and Vinod mehra, Amitabh movies are only sent to the oscars and not other films made by lesser known people with small budgets
SRK, Aamir Khan, karan johar etc are not oscar material. But due to their powerful lobbying and contacts in film industry, govt etc they try to ensure that their films get sent to the oscar nominations by giving them publicity in news, media etc. There are better Indian films made by unknown actors and small time directors who make much better movies than commercial bollywood crap. But since they do not have the muscle or means of an SRK or Aamir, they cannot give publicity and promote, lobby their films for oscars. Hence the right films are not sent. If you see in the past, crap movies like paheli, rang de basanti and vinod chopra movies were sent to the oscars and they didn't win obviously. unless the bollywood super stars let the good films have a shot at the oscars instead of their crap movies, we don't have a chance. But the SRKs and Aamir are desperate to win an oscar and hog the limelight no matter how bad their movies are. So Indians can forget about winning an oscar unless preference by the govt, film board and media start promoting the geniune films instead of bowing down to a few powerful individuals who control the entire bollywood and film industry
