His unique style, dialogue delivery and antics apart, I very fondly remember his outstanding contribution to film music by bringing the best out of legendary composers like S.D Burman and R.D Burman.

It is decades since he gave a hit, but that never deterred him from making films. He was one of the few filmmakers who, after a flop, would animatedly unroll plans for the next film instead of whining about his losses. He remained a youth at heart with a never-say-die attitude that distinguished him from his contemporaries.

He was very sure of himself and was not averse to roping in younger and popular artistes into his ventures. He has worked with Dileep sahab in Gemini's 'Insaniyat' in the 50s and has brought in Shatrugan Sinha, Naseeruddin Shah and such heroes in his later films.
Asha Parekh, Mala Sinha, Nanda, Wahida Begum, Mumtaz, Hema, Vyjayanti, Zeenat, Raakhee- you name the popular Bollywood females, he has acted with them.
Truly an ever-green hero. Dev Saab Amar Rahe!

So what?Basically has an actor par excellent 7 he excelled in his field. That he copied some one is not a matter at all. That way all the cine artiste have copied one or the other. If we peep into the personal lives of cine people several skeletons would come out;there is none without a flash back.Tell me how many cine actors looked young & cheerful as Devanand. His name had been a sunomyn for youthfulness & cheerfulness.Even now people heckle at some one who puts on a show of make up & try to look smart satirically as "Devanand"He was a perfect match for all the bewitching beauties like Waheeda Rehman,Vyjayanthimala & Hemamalini etc..And more importantly, when a man -more so a public figure like Devanand dies, one should try to highlight his good qualities NOT the bad ones.Death levels every one,yet it ennobles some.

Dev Anand
by Venkatachalam iyer on Dec 04, 2011 03:58 PM

I have seen many of his films many times - CID, Kala Bazaar, Kala Pani, Jab Pyar Kisise hota hai, Paying Guest, Manzil, Baarish, Tere Ghar Ke Samne, Guide, to name a few. The news, therefore, was a jolt to me. There was not a when I could miss his thoughts and graceful actions. His romantic love was genuine. His love for mother as portrayed in Kala Bazar and Hum Dono was genuine. One always felt lighter after seeing his movies. He was a source of inspiration to me. I cannot imagine an India minus Dev Anand. Very sad indeed. And a very bad day for me. He has taught me the art of enjoying life. Whenever I felt dull, I used to see and listen to the song \"Bin dheke aur bin pehchane, thum par ham qurban. Mohabbat isko kehte hain.\" and \"Aankhon hi aankhon me ishaara hogaya\" (One of the best duets in Hindi films. It is hard to believe that debonair Dev Anand is no more. I will always remember his stylish and carefree and casual walk, behind Shakila to the gypsies\' song \"Leke pahla pehla pyaar\" and other scenes from CID and other films like Kala Bazaar (Na main dhun chahoon, na ratan chahoon) and the last scene in Guide. His sudden death has saddened me.
