Excellent Movie !!!
by Gud Critix on Aug 17, 2011 05:12 AM  | Hide replies

This is an Excellent movie, see below for details !!!

Message I got : Make education FREE to all That will help abolish coaching centers, Remove reservation from Indian Constitution on the year 2020.

The trailor shows both reservation and coaching centre, so there is no confusion abt the theme that depicts a common man, Amitabh DOES NOT support the reservation but a bit bent towards (given conditions of dalits in the past century), two different things, lot of difference.

Solution depicted by Amitabh is so far the best one, If you make education FREE, these caste conflict and education business will be abolished. It discusses both pros and cons of reservation too.

The whole concept is very realistic and happening in the country. Many coaching institutes loot people per year, teachers teach in coaching institute not college, still, some reputed colleges (including Govt) still give free extra classes for students in demand (though the %ge is very less but it happens).

People should never be lead or mislead or argue of reviews, reviewer are common people only, there is no special course or skills required for that Nor a movie becoming a hit has anything to do with inherent script, many critically aclaimed movies have been flops and vice versa.

My personal opinion, Suspend teachers who do private tutions (once proven that they are taking money). Let's use mobiles, camerca to record and show proof (at least we can do a better use of them than mms scandals)

arakshann and our politicians

I am surprised! I am beginning to wonder if we are being governed by politicians who need to be re- taught to interpret what they see and hear. Maybe they want to interpret things in a particular direction that they are blinkered into their final interpretation/judgement of what they see and hear.
I am talking about the fact that Arakshan has been banned in Uttar Pradesh. The same practice was followed by even by the states of Punjab and Andhra Pradesh.
Arakshan is a sensitive and well made movie with a title concerning reservation but is really about the pathos prevailing in our educational system. It is a detailed and realistic appraisal of the nexus between money, power, politics, corruption and education, showing all that is bad and definitely prevailing in our educational system. Ask any student, ask any teacher and they will immediately connect with the movie. Never once during the movie did I feel that the theme being discussed was the holy cow of Indian politics ---reservation. It was and always was –“education”.
Will the people of U.P. Punjab and A.P. be prevented from seeing the movie based on the blinkered and bigoted views of a few politicians or will the rise and object to overrule the compulsory censorship of our netas?
Or may-be actually I am at fault and didn’t understand the movie while the politicians of U.P. Punjab and A.P. understood it rightly. I don’t think so. India I pity you!

The illusion of Merit (vs Reservation)
by sam nirua on Aug 14, 2011 02:36 PM  | Hide replies

the director Prakash Jha uses a dialogue in movie 'Hum merit me visvas karte hain aarakshan me nahi' (we believe in merit not in reservation).. the director and most of the people who advocate this must understand the illusion of Merit (and its reality)..

First of all, education in rural India (80% of India) is different from the metro cities (the 'Merit' club).. education patterns/results in rural Indian government institutions is strictly on the mercy of higher caste teachers and professors who pass/fail/distinct candidates at their will and the main victims are lower caste candidates, who struggle to pass and score high.. the solution they found is to move to metro cities for education.. now the second phase starts -- they compete with 'Merit' club..

Now the real thing - much talked 'Merit'

let me explain briefly - a parallel merit generation drive in metro's is active in upper castes by past 3 decades.. when I was a student the topper in school/college scored 62% and good students scored 50-55% marks, but now there is a flood of marks, seems every higher caste candidate is scoring a 95% and above marks..

in fact the merit was a tool designed to segregate Higher caste candidates from others.. but now the upper caste is itself trapped in web of 'merit' since you have almost everyone scoring a 100%..

I personally believe a SC/ST candidate scoring a 60% is as brilliant as a another higher caste candidate scoring a 95% (with checkers blessings)..

Provide resources not reservations. Offer free books evade their fee. Offer complete assistance and let the competition be open. Reservation brings incompetency that's the biggest truth. Best man for the job would certainly lead to prosperous India. I don't believe in politically motivated policies and band aid solutions. Yes there should be a policy to help the Socially backward group but provide them resources not reservations.

@sudhir dhar / Shreyash Shukla

sam had a point.. a valid one.

your statements are conflicting within themselves and show how confused you guys are in reality… it just showed you have no idea about the Indian history or Indian social system..

It is highly disgusting when a higher caste guy who has literally no historical information says ‘Reservation brings incompetency’…. It just shows your true character and colours… probably you need to spend a few day in rural India to understand the position of the downtrodden communities who are still treated as slaves and are living highly undignified miserable lives.. all your bright talks about the ‘resource providance’ and ‘competing in USA’ will vanish from backdoors.

For me the biggest looser is the person who enjoys the best resources, best positions and best affiliations, but criticizes the unprivileged ones for their progress which was insured during Indian independence constitutionally..

agree to Sam, this is the real unfortunate story of our progressive and shining india who is a big global economy and an atomic power now..

also it is the same place where over 40% people are still living below poverty lines... only to struggle for two times meals..

shining India???

Understanding downtrodden communities will not make a progressive India. You are a selective reader. Read what i said Best man for the job and i have no reservations if he or she is from the the socially backward group. A nation progresses when best men are for the jobs. I also said provide 100% resources for studying and even free education but let the competition be open. It's you who is being castist by pointing my caste. I never made a statement on any caste. I only meant to have a progressive India. Wake up and see other nations. Even Australia has aborignals but they dont provide reservations for them. The have those extra set of facilities for them. You better have knowledge of caste system of not just India but other nations also and how are they progressing.

Does Mr.Vyas means to say that all upper caste families are financially well and all backward groups are poor. Dont make classification of upper caste and lower caste based or surnames but on financial status/income... ok. They are the one who are downtrodden. Get the clear picture. whatever may be the surname and whoever is under previlaged there should be no reservation. I know you wont agree to it bcoz my surname is that of a upper caste.

I was born in Khambhat district kheda and i am proud to make myself to your mentioned multiplex life against all odds and Reservation is one of them. I don't need to study Indian History as i know it better than atleast you. By the way do you belong to Congress you sound like one of them. Stop exploiting grief of poor offer them resources and let them stand on their own instead of making them complacent and lazy

now that you used political overtones, no one will possibly argue with you since you belong to Gujarat which had shown gross violalion of human rights in recent times (I will not name you honourable CM).

and I really pity on you, if you feel you are proud of being a multiplex guy who overcame odds of reservation.. it once again proves you have literally no idea of Indian socio economic setup and history of downtrodden communties.

You need to get educated on Socio economic setup.ONLY BEST MAN FOR THE JOB WILL ONLY LEAD TO PROGRESS and stop showing you fake sympathy towards the downtrodden communities Like your leaders. Dont be an imposter. It's a shame if you have downtrodden communities even after 60 yrs of independence and the reason for that is RESERVATION. I feel pity on you too loser.

British gave Homeland/Independence to Muslims/Christians/Anglo-Indians/Sikhs/SC/ST communities in 4th August 1932 Round Table Conference.
Gandhi begged these communities viz Reservations so that they don't seek Independence from India.

Typcial Right wing media against Reservation
by Ahamed on Aug 12, 2011 06:20 PM  | Hide replies

Reservation is for empowerment of social disabled communities rather than job opportunities. In USA,Brazil,South Africa,
Govt and Universities reserve opportunities for social disabled communties through affirmative program. Here few
communities denied education for centuries.

Using Christians reveiwers,Muslims reveiwers, even dalits reveiwers for trashing a movie.I view reviews as rediff rather than reviewers

Your Cinematic Quotient is low, where you judged cinema from Cinematic Theme rather treatment of cinema. If you can't
agree with story, then you find a cinema bad."The Birth of Nation" is pro-Racist cinema,But considered as greatest cinema
in the world by all critics.

Narendra modi is the biggest criminal chief minister in the Indian history.. the guy is cleverly using the shining gujarat campaign (with his private allied business/media houses) to hide his present and past criminal activities including the gross riots of Gujarat.

I appeal to government of India to arrest this insane criminal as early as possible.
