What's the big deal if Desis in NYC are dancing to this song? These Desis living the USA, are like misfits there, and always are nostalgic about India. But because of the lure of dollars, don't want to come back. They are neither here, nor there.

is it essetial to abuse for everything around us . Why cant you enjoy waht your fellow brothers and ssiters staying in US . They are still known and reciognised as Indian Dispora !! Whats the problme dude if they dance on Indian Songs ! Be pround we are all samw even if we cross boundires for bread and butter dear !!
What do they mean by Deshi? The way it presented, seems to me that it was done by SOuth Asians(Indian, Bangladeshis, Pakistanis etc). The author is trying to confuse us by saying Deshi. Why not explicitly say the name of the country. It is like anything wrong done by Pakis, it will be blame as Deshis and Indians will fall into this. It is already being done in England by saying people from sub continent. Thanks
Cheers to US. We Indians wont be able to do things like that in India. US may be losing its economic might, but I hail the country which gives so much freedom to its citizens irrespective of their origin. Maybe someday we Indians too can.

Why do you say that we Indians wont be able to ( or have not been been able to) do things like that in India? Are you suffering from some complex ? In any case what was the big deal about this episode, just one of the things , can happen anywhere in the world and of course in India in any city
Could actually spot a couple of white (or perhaps 'east asian' ?) persons in the photos ! And it is very very easy to imagine that those few joined in just as a few white stragglers always join in for such 'street shows' of Congolese-Americans, Nigerian-Americans, Sri-Lankan Americans, Vietnamese-Americans, Chadian-Americans, Bulgarian-Americans, Turkish-Americans, Bolivian-Americans, etc. !!
But these Indian-Americans can be sure and proud of one thing. And that is that the number of their countrymen watching and approvingly talking about their 'show' in America can never ever be matched by the numbers of those other ethnicities watching similar 'shows' of their folk in America !!

America is really the 'ultimate' from which India and Indians can earn 'respect', 'admiration', etc. and must avoid embarassment in, is it not ??????????
if I were in NY that time, I would be embarassed as would be any indian with self respect. When I imagine this event, for americans its just a group of indian women dancing to an unknown tribal music on the streets like some bunch of crazy retards. Kudos for keeping our reputation and showcasing our heritage and culture, our country Bharath is proud of you women.

Also I can add that from your comments, am a 100% confident that you have never danced in your life and will never know the joy of dancing

All I want to say is that your comments show how ignorant and orthodox you are. We value our cultures and traditions as much as people in India and maybe more since we are away from it and we have to make constant efforts to keep it alive. For a person who to US sometime back, I was completely taken aback as to how much people( other than Indians to be precise) respect our cultures and traditions and are in awe of our rich Dance heritage.Being in India, may I how many of your friends are into Indian classical dancing or even support it. 90% of my friends who have grown up here and classically trained in Indian dancing and have utmost respect for it. You cannot disagree that bollywood dancing has become an integral part of India and what you have seen is a showcase or a sneek peak of it.You have no idea how much efforts we put into promoting Indian dancing including bollywood in this country (something which am sure u have never done) and people who see us have only appreciation and respect for us. You probably have your comments based on the negative media all over and you can never comment unless you know the real thing!

I agree with you....................Indians in India lead such drab lives!!. It appears like they have nothing to feel good about!!. They seem to have lost the zest to live and have fun and make irrelevant comments on 'values and culture' and feel that everything in India is corruption and lousy.
rediff just want to make news.. only those useless NRI auties dancing in new york street but rediff publishing as if whole new york is dancing for bollywood songs.. rediff..why r u living this shameless life.. ??
These are not New Yorkers but NRI Girls with success air in their head or we can say them bunch of idiots or not down to earth girls dancing in New York to make some kind of show off on Indian music. Why they have to do it? What are they trying to prove? Why to show music to US white people? They are making fun of themselves..

This is definately not something to show as "News" But I dont think what comments you pass they deserve. You might have never allowed your body to move on bits of music. So you cannot understand the fun what they enjoyed there. By doing dance on the road they surely got what they wanted. Some stupids spend whole life spreading bitter test of partitioning Black/white and hindu/muslim. You are one of them. I would say this all help us to remove stress and add peace in our life. Hope similar kind of stunts I cud see in India. Atleast its better than bomb blast, bund, religious fights.
