"but it's also a pity that the song rarely moves out of what is now Ilaiyaraja's comfort zone" - Maestro Ilayaraja doesn't have any Comfort Zone. He can create masterpieces, but he will compose songs as the Story & Situation demands. No Composer in India will compose & sing a song like "Kuthikira Kuthikira". He brings the characters' innocency before us. Eventhough the Rating is too low, Ilayaraja doen't need these Ratings.
P.S: Is the picture posted in the review from this movie?
Does Rediff leave the rating to a 3rd party and just the review to the reviewer? How else can you explain such a glowing review and an disproportionate low star rating???
Definitely Ilaya Raja would have his touch on all songs. In the past he had the opportunity to work with incomparable lyricist, Kannadasan sung by no other than SPB and Janaki and many dumb artists became over night heros no where to be seen now. His master piece is Agni Nakshatiram. In all his tune, you will find a rare carnatic raga which will be fused in such a way, only a few can understand and recognise. Great music composer; rather unique. Can definitely be compared to MSV and KVM - of course he played in their bands in early days.

Wow! Well said & to the point! You are spot on with your comments. Raja sir is the true genius & maestro! His music has soul & longevity that none of the current day MDs can even talk about let alone boast of!
