Bappi is the biggest copy cat!!
by Neethu KR on Apr 05, 2011 04:41 PM

"Also, 'Jai ho.' I did 'Ramba ho' in 1985. Rahman combined three of my songs and got Best Original Score. The 'Ho' came from me. Who brought it? Bappi Lahiri brought the ho to Bollywood."
All we can see here is the 'I-am-kinda-big-deal' attitude of Bappi.. His famous number 'Zooby Zooby' is a direct lift of song 'Brother Louie' by German band 'Modern Talking'... He's jealous of Rahman and that has made him blind.

Disco

The concept of dance has evolved manifold in last three decades. Those dance steps may not look that smart anymore. But in 80s Disco, Mithun & Bappi lahiri was phenomenal and added a new dimension to hindi film industry.

disagree with you, Bappi & Mithun were indeed phenomenal. Copy or not, Bappi introduced disco music in India and it is a fact, we all still hum and sing the music he gave.

I grew up near Dharavi, at a place called Hill Road, Bandra in a city then called Bombay (now Mumbai). It was not a slum back in the 80s & its not a slum today. Back then, there was a very 'Goan' & western feel about Bandra. I grew up spending lazy summer afternoons, dancing to 'Jungle Life' by Baltimora and Funky Town and Footloose and a host of other '70s & 80s hits.

However, DD was a complete phenomenon, the music was absolutely outstanding and cut across all genres we had heard till then. It just shook up our whole music scenario. It cut across class lines, people in Dharavi and the highrises of Bandra enjoyed it equally.

Poor taste
by Srini on Apr 05, 2011 03:18 PM

This article (and may be the book too) is written in very poor taste. As far as I know only one song was a lifted tune in Disco Dancer. Others are original and pretty good too. And if a music director can give a few songs that last more than a decade then you simply cannot deride his talent. Try to be funny not cheap.
