Westerns are creating hype...and she herself giving interviews about Indian's obsession with white skin...ok alright. Indians like White skin but Indians do not consider Freida Pinto to be beautiful not because she is dark...but because she isn't beautiful from any angle.her facial features are bad. In India, we love sharp features like large eyes, sharp nose, small lips, round face, long lusterous hair, curvaceous figure. Many B wood actresses have been loved by Indians inspite of their not very fair(wheatish) complexion like Waheeda Rehman, Rekha, Hema Malini,Jaya Prada, Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, Rani Mukherjee or even darker actresses like Nandita Das, Smita Patil, Chitrangada Singh,Kajol,Deepika Podukone. Infact, if you see the most successful actresses of B wood, very few are are extremely white.

Its not about dark or fair complexion....she isn't beautiful from any angle...her features are nowhere close to beautiful dusky actress like Nandita Das. Which Indian does not consider Nandita Das or Smita to be Patil beautiful? Indians do like lighter complexion but sharp features are always the priority.
Its not about fair skin...I do not like her features,..her eyes, nose lips all wrong..and she does not look much Indian either. I prefer much darker actresses like Nandita Das, Late Smita Patil, Chitrangada Singh or even Deepika Podukone.Their facial features are so sharp. They are real Indian beauties...and she is getting so much hype because she is being likes by WHITE people...aren't we back to racism again?

if that was a question, you only answered it. Its pure hype, part of media packaging.
finally someone who actually looks indian has made it in hollywoood. ironically the indians on this forum themselves prefer western fair skin and light eyes and detest anyone who looks like them as kaamwaalis- they forget their mums and sisters dont look like aiswarya who is an aberration to the typical indian female. some inferiority complex there!
