He made a movie with Ram as villan and Raavan as Hero and the result is predictable - A big flop in India a big opportunity for Enropean audiance to cheer. No wonder he gets an award and standing ovation for this crapy movie.
mani ratnam's movies have good locations and music (well, sometime..). But the guys has this communist idealogy hidden in all his movies.. and that is where it sucks. Like for example in Dil Se he shows Army in bad light and glorify the maoists. In Raavan he glorifies Raavan (an outlaw, lower caste guy) and gives a dark shade to Ram (a police officer). In Guru he was confused as to how to show the main character because its a movie about a capitalist. So what we see is that we Mithun shown as a commie editor who helps him initially. In Roja, he shows a Kashmiri terrorist as nice guy. Plainly speaking Mani Ratnam is one of those guys who show India in a worse possible manner. He is the Arundathi Roy of movies.
Amitabh was livid once he found out his sons acting was not up to the mark infact rubbish compared to Vikram...This gets more ridiculos as this can never be considered any near the best of Vikram (Veera versus Beera)..
Abishek his limitations as an actor was exposed completely in this movie...Bachchan Sr after his usual euphoria before every release, vented his frustration on Manirathnam and got the right snub..Bachchan was rambling that as if he had acted and continue to act in great movies and got the beating from Mani.
No wonder after getting snubbed by manirathnam their family has gone missing for these awards..Had this movie been some what ok..all four along with Amar Singh would've been in the first flight to Berlin...
As for Mani, Raavan was a bad attempt, the quality of his films have all gone on a downward spiral after 80's...Kannathil Muthamittal was the last great movie he gave and through out the 90's Roja, Iruvar and KM are the only movies with his trademark directorial touch...
Mani sir, please work with your father in law Kamal...I know it would be difficult for you to match Kamal's expectation in screenplay..let him write the screen play, you can direct him..It would be great if you join hands with him for his next magum opus historical venture Marmayogi ...The big one is due for a long time..
Maniratinam only make crap movies. All his movies are flops. His movies are also monotonous. People have taught him a lesson with Raavan. He wont make any film for next 3 years.

In Ravan both the movie and music were below par..Many a time Manirathmans picturisation has saved Rehmans music like Guru when People started to throw in indifferent opinions once the audio gets released. Dil Se Rahman was the winner..
I am sure it works out that way...Roja, Thiruda Thiruda, Iruvar, Kannathil Muthamittal it was even...
Yuva, Raavan, Guru it was bit letdown by both...
Bombay..Rahman wins only by a small margin...
This comes from a guy who has enjoyed all his movies from from the 80's..Manirathnam as a whole is on a decline..hope he finds his touch back quickly...

how do u define consistency? Boxoffice or quality? In both area's since Roja, Nayagan, Anjali, Bombay, Kannathil Muthamittal and thereafter the quality has been going down.
Boxoffice hits also have started coming down and given the uncertainity is when he started multiple releases so that Producers & Distributors will their money back. He seems less confident these days about what he wants to do in his movies fearing boxoffice bombs.
Though Shakar does pure commercial pictures and cannot deliver Roja or Nayagan, he seems confident about what he wants to do with his movies. He is clearly on dot about commercial success and has never failed except for Boys. Even Jeans a lower quality material made is money.
Watching Raavan feel one pity for Mani and why he made the crew struggle 1 year for this.
Raavanan was a superb film! Those people who said the movie is not nice are craps!....The astounding camera, the way the film was picturised, songs, ash, vikram are the highlights of the movie.

you must be half blind to appreciate the camera and the lighting of the movie. Although it appeared real, thats not what Cinema wants.
