A hit movie is not neccessarily a good cinema!!!

B Kamalhassan chooses to take the unconventional path of an artiste..hence his films generally are not liked by the masses or are populist!!

I thought Pushpak Vimanam was only made in Telugu. Its definately a good movie. But, I donno how good it would have holded the masses during that time. Any ways, Pushpaka Vimanam was an insipiration from an old silent Telugu movie "Pushpaka Vimanam" from 1930`s which is way better. It`s remembered as a classic even today (was a big hit that time too. Indian cinema should be proud of Telugu movies. Also, Tamil movies these days.

Singeetham Srinivasa Rao and Kannada
by xxx yyy on Sep 08, 2010 04:49 AM  | Hide replies

1. He made many movies with Dr Rajkumar as the hero. Some of them were super hits - Haalu Jenu, Chalisuva Modagalu and Shravana Banthu being examples
2. As you cannot dub movies into Kannada (unlike other languages), he made Pushpaka Vimana as a Kannada original and then dubbed it into other languages. (It is a different thing that there is no dialog in this movie, but by certifying it as a Kannada movie, he could get around the restriction of dubbing into Kannada). Incidentally, the movie is based in Bangalore

All the Movies you have mentioned are top class...Chalisuva Modagalu ran for an year, Shravana Banthu 35 weeks and so Haalu Jenu around 40 weeks.
Even Bhagyadha Lakshmi Baramma with Raj is silver jubilee. Climax scene of Haalu Jenu, one of the best acting scenes of Annavru

MMKR is the best ... best movie ever made!!!
by Kalpana Natarajan on Sep 07, 2010 08:14 PM  | Hide replies

My God..!! I would have seen the movie a million times .. and I will swear that its the best movie ever made.. and no one can get enough of it. Sad.. that you have to understand Thamizh very well.. to understand the humour! Hats off to Singeetham, Crazy Mohan, and Kamal Hassan. Oorvasi is the best heroine in the film... and her comic timing is amazing :-) Both Kameshwaran and Tirupu made a very cute pair...

He excelled in non-Kamal films
by bala sreenivasan on Sep 07, 2010 07:50 PM  | Hide replies

One of the finest movie-makers indeed. he excelled more in non-Kamal films where he received a bigger creative space. Kamal preferred him for the same reason why MGR preferred Pa.Neelakantan- very silent, pliant and not argumentative!
