It is really unbelievable and unimaginable... Two weeks in a row, there are no new Tamil releases to compete superstar Rajinikanth's Endhiran – The Robot. Interestingly, most of the theatres in the state have increased the number shows in the second week. This has never happened in the history of Tamil cinema.
Last Friday, Enthiran wave engulfed theatres in Chennai city. Rajinikanth mania continues unabated, as not even small films are willing to take the risk of taking on the Baadshah of the box-office.
The theatres are not even willing to talk to distributors about new releases, as they think it is a waste of time. The only film sustaining the theatres with reduced number of shows is Boss Engira Baskaran.
Mahesh Babu's Khaleja, which opened on Thursday (October 7) got a poor response in both Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and its content also keep the viewers away from the theatres.
For the first time ever, the regular weekly Tamil dubbed films of other languages did not make it to the theatres this Friday. That's the power and hold of Rajinikanth and his Enthiran in Tamil Nadu.
According to the box office reports at the end of first seven days, Enthiran - The Robot collected more than Rs.120 crores as distributors share from India alone (excluding overseas box office). And the good news is that it is still going strong in both India and abroad.
