The quest for the best wearer of the dhoti is futile, if the choise is to be made among the actors listed. Only Kamal Hasan - among the crowd mentioned - stands out to some extent, with a degree of authenticity. In case you didn't know, nobody can match Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna when it comes to wearing and carrying off the dhoti with aplomb. Watch "Mera Gaon Mera Desh" (for Vinod Khanna) or "Anupama" (for Dharmendra) to actually see and believe it. Jaganniwas
northies cannot able to wear dhotis, than PC, Karunanidhi, Stanlin, A Raja. Why rediff is challenging this? Nobdy is best than the above figures. hahahahahahahaha

IN SOUTH THERY WERE THE DHOTI USUALLY IN A LUNGI STYLE WHERE AS IN NORTH OR EAST IT IS WORN IN TOTALLY DIFFERENT STYLE.SO THERS NO QUETION FOR ARGUMENT.
the north indian style of wearing it in between the legs doesnt look good...even telugu people wear it the same way...tamilnadu and kerala style of wearing dhoti is best and trendy...

FYI in ancient times Tamilnadu also used to wear the same way see the murals and statues of Chola kings. Or even Raja Ravi Verma's paintings to check how Rajas of Travancore used to wear dhoti.
Modern TN and Kerala Dhoti is hangover of lungi. And how will you ride a horse or fight in war with modern tamilnadu style ?

TN and Kerala has changed a lot and given up horses when they go to fight....:)There are modern vehicles in this part of the world.

But people ride bicycles and ride motorcycles. Horses are given up but Dhoti is traditional dress , There are many things which are tradition of past but carried in modern age. Example handshake was required in middle ages in Europe to give confidence that you will not draw sword now a days no one carries a sword but people do handshake.

TN style is the best one for south weather. It ensures air flow. During emergency too, this is the best form, because we can fold it and tie it to the hip and the legs gets more agility

And expose hairy legs and underwear indecently while riding on bike and sitting on low floor. After 19th Century the peopl forgot traditional dhoti in south under influence of muslim tahmad / lungi in kerala and it spread to Tamil Nadu too.
