Why rediff is publishing such stupid articles in headlines. We are having several other issues in country. BIG BOSS is almost banned & Govt should completely banes such type prog on TV. Give importance & encouragement for other valuable programs related to education, health, awareness etc.

A western women can never look good wearing a saree. The saree looks good on Indian women who have the grace and elegance the attire requires and understand the secret of its grace.
Ancient Indian wisdom has it that the shoulders must be covered - because open shoulders are considered as erotic. Therefore a generous and enclosing PALLU is at the centre of the grace of a saree. An open stomach is considered pious because it denotes motherhood - MATRUTVA.
Western women dont understand this.
The saree was brought to India by the daughter of the greek general - Seleukos. After Alexander's death, Seleukos had the ambition to once again reconquer the territories once conquered by Alexander. He return a few years later. By then Chandragupta Maurya had ascended the throne of Magadha with the help of Chanakya. A war ensued between Seleukos and Chandragupta, which Seleukos lost. They signed a peace treaty and exchanged gifts. Seleukos gave Chandragupta horses as gift, the writer Megasthenes was deputed to the court of Chandragupta to write the memoirs of his rule. Lastly he gave his daughter in marriage to Chandragupta, who brought the attire to India - now called saree. Readers may recall - men and women of the Roman empire wearing a long cloth drawn over the shoulder. The saree then travelled from the royal court to the masses, acquiring various regional hues and styling.

Great - now Indian dresses are also 'originally' from Europe. Next is Yoga. Yoga was originally called Yugbulus, a form of stretching in Greece. It was brought to India by the second cousin (by marriage) of Megasthenes, etc, etc.

Krish G : Have you not seen Julius Caesar. Men and Women of the Roman empire wore a long cloth finally draped around the shoulder. This is history, it is upto you whether to believe. By inserting a negative comment, you cannot negate history.
