Anything new to offer Superstar?
by Vijay Rajan on Nov 24, 2010 10:53 PM  | Hide replies

Turning the eyebrows, make the face to anger, wear cooling glass, beat gundas..slow motion walks...and a dance is there anythng new to offer Mr Prithviraj? The question should be asked more to the directors... This young man within a short span is becoming repetitive.. But the new era viewers wants to see the glamour only... assume this star showing this in the 80s of mal cinema.. Humour, romance, difficulties of unemployed....these were what made Lal and Mammooty different..Let Prithvi get good roles !

This is like comparing Don Bradman (99.99avg.) and sachin tendulkar (55 avg.) inspite of having only half the average of sir don, both these players are equally considered as legends of cricket... so can you say that if sachin played in that era he would have better average or sir don will struggle now.... come on

THE MYTH ABOUT MALAYALAM MOVIES
by benedict francis on Nov 22, 2010 02:01 PM  | Hide replies

This is for guys crying about the GOLDEN OLDIES. I happened to see old movies (B&W)likE kannur deluxe, lanka dahanam etc. these were also crap movies. and what about Jayabharathi and other bombs wearing short skirts almost revealing their backs.. And about the Big M's lal did a remake of Shathrukhnan sinha's Kalicharan with minimal success at the begining of his career, and Mammooty acted in lot of craps until he succeded in oliyambukal as insp. balram and the rest is history, they are legends... but inspite of these after immense experience they tend to do movies like thandavam, drona, sagar alias, lov in singapore etc.. remember these movies were not released not long ago.. so before blaming the youngster for doing these roles it would be nice to look at the past and find the reality of malyalam cinema industry.. quality movies to satisfy the critics will come that's for sure.. let's hope for the best....

You have only seen Kannur Delux, lanka dahanam and Jayabharathi, thats not the real class films, try to watch class 80's mallu movies before talking like a kiddo and grow up..I agree prithivi did a great job in vasthavam, but his range of acting is limited and now he's just being a show man like the current mammooty and mohanlal. But dont forget, during Prithivi's age, mammooty and mohanlal did great great movies, now i too agree mammooty and mohanlal are acting in crap movies and prithviraj is in the same shoe. No no need to glorify him just being an youngster, let him cater nice movies, then will appreciate that..

live and let live

Why can't the self-proclaimed lovers of malayalam movies live with the fact that Mammootty, Mohanlal and Prithviraj are talented actors in their own rights? There are roles which only one among these can take care of and the others can't even come close if they give it a try. Ever thought of Mohanlal in the shoes of Joesph Alex in The King or Mammootty in Nadodikaatu or Prithviraj in Narasimham? It's quite explicit that they'll mess it up.
Prithviraj is still a beginner and has miles to go before he attains the status of Mohanlal and Mammootty. Yet that shouldn't be considered as some sort of a reason to throw brickbats at his movies.
It's the unhealthy competition among the so-called fans which spoils the show (literally) for others.

Sanjoy, You are trying to put prithvi into lals and mammuttys shoes. He is no where near to them and even after completing 30 years also he'll be the same. Acting is inborn which this "sundaraviddi" doesn't possess. His bro is better than him.

I can't figure out as to why people tend to be prejudiced about newcomers. Everyone was a newcomer once and that includes lalettan and mammooka as well. It takes time to mature as an actor. To the best of my knowledge none of us is a descendant of Nostradamus. Dismissing someone off without a fair chance is nothing more than an example of narrow-mindedness. If Prithvi is so bad a actor in your eyes, then why is it that Lalettan and Mammooka who have been in the industry for such a long period of time end up doing absolute crap movies at times? Nobody is perfect and that includes Lalettan and Mammooka too.
Give everyone a fair chance bhai.

Mr. alex if u look at the malayalm films now(this year) hw many have been acted by these mamuka & Lalettan? only 3 or 5, so rest of the fims(almost) have been casted with the youth. if u look the film releasing like bombay mittai, holidays, puthumungangal etc. these all films stars youth. so the problem is not fresh face its abt directors that making malyalam film making whole industry pathetic. we dont have a director who have the creativity that our bharathan, padmarajan, arvindan, fazil showed.

P.S: If everyone had thought like you do about Prithvi now, when Lal and Mammootty made their debuts way a couple of decades back, then probably they would've also been labelled as sundaraviddis. They didn't start their careers with blockbusters and high critical acclaim either. But they took their time, fought their way through the mess and made themselves the biggest stars in the industry. Food for thought.

Prithvi will be out from Malayalam industry
by BABU NAINA on Nov 18, 2010 08:47 PM  | Hide replies

take it from me, this much hyped actor'll be out of malayalam film industry within no time. Acting wise he is a big zero. what else he has got, a good physique, this is not bolywood or hollywood. Malayalees rate an actor on his ture mettle and talent. He is nowhere near to even 3rd grade actors of malayalam filmdom. Then where to compare him with legends like mohanlal and mammootty.

About Looking Good
by Shashi Kumar on Nov 18, 2010 05:46 PM

Are film about looking good or looking the character. We have this outlandish notion that a good actor means he should be good-looking, having six-packs etc., etc. The day we outgrow this notion, things will begin to look up for our cinema industry. I would rather have wonderful actors like Mammooty or Mohanlal with fat belies than a Salman Khan with six packs.

Its amusing to see people forgetting the past so easily. Man, if it was not for Mammootty and Lal, Malayalam cinema would have been on the verge of death by now.
