I am a new rediff viewer, curious to know what did rediff rate the film that won several awards in India released in 2009. I'm speaking about 3 idiots. Raja sen reviewed it and gave a 2 stars.... I just want to drive back this point that, Don't be a person who just gives a 5 star if that film gets a nomination for oscars. Being an Indian, encourage good indian films, Don't know what wrong you've found in 3 idiots?? it deserves a 3.5 for sure. So bad on your part telling each oscar nominee a must watch. First stop ignoring our motherland, then appreciate world cinema; no one points you out.....
Social Network is good for watching to those who are curious to know how (American)English language is used to portray what it doesn't purport to ,in a film whose potentials are not exploited...period.
I have read you reviews before and they were pathetic. Like accidental billionaire may be reviewers like you might do good job accidentally. Fantastic movie watch it.
Guys, chill !! I read RS's reviews not to decide on whether to watch a movie or not but just to hear his perspective. More often that not, I don't agree one bit with him but that doesn't make me right or him wrong..And honestly, I think a lot of criticism that goes his way is because people have put him on a high pedestal which is frankly ridiculous. He's just another guy like us who has an opinion. He might spout a lot of verbose (non)sense but take it all with a pinch (sometimes, bucket) of salt.
My personal favorite reviewer continues to be Ebert. Yes, he's become more generous with old age but he still speaks a lot of sense. Check out his review of 2012. A horrible movie, I'm sure most of us here would agree, but he still rates it higly simply because the movie accomplishes what it sets out to achieve with real aplomb. It never promises an intelligent script or an arresting story-line, all it wants to do is amaze you with its visual splendor and it does that brilliant. Whether you want to watch a movie only for its visual grandeur is a personal choice but he doesn't diss the movie just for its lack of ambition. I'be rambled but if it makes sense to atleast one person out here, I'm happy.
Thanks and keep the constructive criticism going !!
PS: I loved The Social Network from a movie-making perspective. Its far from the truth and chooses to dramatise a lot and do away with a lot of the mundane bits of reality but its compelling cinema. Brilliant stuff from

Folks, I am not questioning the goodness of the film. Its a good film, but not a full score one!I just don't and can't believe that this is the one! If you give TSN a 5/5 score, what score are you going to give movies like- On the Waterfront, The Apartment, The Godfather 1 & 2; The Taxi Driver, Traffic, Citizen Kane, Pulp Fiction, Memento, Matrix.... All you guys mean to say that this movie belongs the the league of the above films???? This is not even Fincher's best, which RS wants us to believe! Having followed Fincher's work closely, I can say with great confidence that Fight Club still is Fincher's best work...by miles followed by Seven may be. Zodiac will come third. This may come after that! And I know exactly what I am talking about! I am sure all the Deepaks and Yagniks..they don't have any clue what they are talking about!
Re: Is this really a 5/5..Fincher's greatest work till date?

I agree wid u-although the movie is really gud its not really 5/5
The performance, direction, dialogues...everything is rock solid. What doesn't work is the jumping between present and flashback. They should have used a different lighting or hairstyles....it's really confusing sometimes.
But the performance of the characters walks with the cake. Mark evokes sympathy and disgust in equal measures. You really feel for Eduardo when he learns of Mark's betrayal. You instantly hate Sean.
But I wd give it a 3.5 out of 5....coz it's just a one time watch...it's too boring for a 2nd time watch.
I can't question the taste of Mr. critic here. He has a right to it. But when you earn your bead and butter from commenting on films, you should try and take your job a bit more seriously. Sadly enough in this case, 5 stars to TSN will undermine RS's credibility as a reviewer. Having watched TSN based on 5 stars, I am definitely not going to take this reviewer and his reviews seriously any more!
Either RS doesn't know about movies or RS was in a delusion while writing this!
5 stars...is this a joke! Or serious business deal????

Dont blame others if you dont get the movie. Wat did u expect to see, special effects like Avatar. FYI this movie has a Metacritic score of 95 which is very rare and critics worldwide have praised it. I too would give it a 4.5 out of 5. Its just not your kind of movie i guess
