In the 70s and 80s, the Kannada industry produced so many award winning, thought provoking and artistic movies that were copied in the other South Indian languages. Not any more, Kannada movie makers copy from the other languages. Even commercially successful Kannada movies from actors such as Rajkumar and Vishnuvardhan were copied. Shankar Guur, for instance, was copied into Telugu (Kumar Raja), Tamil (Trishoolam) and Hindi (Mahaan with Amitabh). Even the songs were copied. Many stars of South Indian cinema started their careers in Kannada. Rajnikanth started his career in Kannada. Maniratnam's first movie was in Kannada (and it also happened to be Anil Kapoor's first movie - Pallavi Anupallavi). Now it is all gone. Kannada film music nowadays (or, maybe all film music) is like a medley of dishwasher and wet grinder sounds mixed with that of a rattling government bus.
i dont care whr he is from but he has acted in all major languages. a true actor who comes in the league of kamal, mohanlal, aamirkhan, nazeerudin shah, om puri.

brilliant brilliant actor..one of india's finest..sometimes has a tendency to play to the galleries or overdo it for the director, but when he decides to do a role with his mind set he is phenomenal..case in point..Iruvar, one of india's finest movie..a movie ahead of its time and superb to see the powerhouse performances of Prakash and Mohanlal(he has done many superlative roles)..his stock deadpan delivery, rolling of eyes and dialogue delivery make him suited for any role including villians which is the toughest to perform and also the genial dad/friend/brother etc.Truly a genius like Mohanlal, mammootty, naseeruddin, pankaj kapur,om puri, anupam kher saab, thilakan and dilip kumar..

Mr. Kannada, so what if he is Prakash Raj. By the way this stupid idea of thinking tamils call him prakash raj is absurd as the reporter of the above article from Bangalore herself is refering him as Prakash Raj. SO what if he is from Mangalore (Mangaluru). IS this even a problem.. get a life man. Even prakash raj won't/doesnt mind it..

dude, dont behave as if a real obama. i know u r a copy cat. First u people from outside karnataka dont impose ur culture n language on us. We have a seperate identity as KANNADIGAS and accept it first. My language and culture is being suppressed in BENGALOORU(not BANGALORE AS U PEOPLE CALL!!). So first stop that thing. Even mumbai was in the same phase in 60s and 70s. "Bala Thakrey" was "born" at the same time. Here, also the same thing is happening(T A NARAYANA GOWDA). So accept our culture and language and dont impose ur things. :)

You are right - he's Prakash Rai. But his screen name is Prakash Raj, as chosen by him. So if he has no problem, why do you?

that's his acting charisma! He gets into the skin of the character effortlessly. I watched the Tamil ver of Wanted not for the hero but for this villain! He's too good in whatever role you give him - Villain, Father, Comedy. Plus national award winner! He's in the class of Paresh Rawal i would say.
