Timely article
by Savio J on May 17, 2010 09:37 AM

Nice article Mr Sen. You are the right person, in the wrong place! How you tolerate sticking around in this s**t hole (Redidd) is beyond me!

Anyway, there has to be a great will and generosity to restore these. Blu-Ray adds an incentive to get these cleaned up and display it as intended. The DVD editions of Guru Dutt films on DVd are a travesty! A restore of Pyaasa and a Blu-Ray issue (by Criterion hopefully) would be the ultimate tribute and homage to the man!

Keep at it Raja, they may just listen :)
Cheers!

No Shahrukh movies in this?
by Naalayak Chhokra on May 16, 2010 11:48 PM

This is not fair.. Raja Sen should include atleast 5 SRK movies in the list of 10 classics.. even if they are available in digital.

Someone is using Raja's name. This cant be a Raja Sen article.

u mean 10 hindi classics !
by geby jacob on May 12, 2010 01:35 PM  | Hide replies

Why is it that Hindi is considered to be India ? Isn't our diversity what makes us what we are ? isn't that the source of our beauty ? Now if this is an indication showing the strength of rediff's research team, my sympathies to you.. and if this is done out of ignorance, sympathies galore again.. Some of the great hits in hindi have been influenced by cinema from the south.. U don't have to appreciate it.. but ignoring the rest of India when it comes to the art forms is simply despicable.. my sympathies again..

Why do you south Indians suffer from inferiority complex.

Does this article mention anywhere that these 10 films are the BEST films etc...

It just says these classics need digital restoration.

Why do you have to bring this north south divide at the drop of a hat?

You got in wrong buddy. Yeah its a complex, but a " superiority" complex ! We are just frustated with a whole bunch of crap that gets written and assumed as " real" while actually half the morons who write about them them are ignorant about the better things that have come out of supposed " India". And about the north south divide, it exists and will continue to exist and over a period of time boil over to something serious. Its inevitable, and a lot of people are waiting for that to happen.

A divide ? where do u see a divide wen one states his point.. IS there a lie in my comments ? ppl like u think of divides all the time and sadly thats all u can do.. dude, there r scores of classics in South India which faces the risk of being lost in time.. THe site is called Rediff India.. not rediff north india !!

Mohammad Rafi at the height of his powers,
by ANIL SINGH on May 12, 2010 01:32 PM  | Hide replies

totally wrong. Don't know what research they do before commenting. This was beginning of Rafi era. This was the first film where Naushad used his full range. After this Rafi left behind Mukesh, Talat, kishore everyone till late 70's when Kishore with help of RD became popular choice. 60's was the peak of Rafi when for all actors including for Kishore in few movies he gave playback.

At last a sane article by Mr. "In-Sen"
by Unbiased Indian on May 12, 2010 12:40 PM  | Hide replies

At last a "sane" article by Mr "in-sen" (insane). The list may not be all inclusive, but atleast this time I can relate to this noble view endorsed by Mr.Ra-jaa. These movies are indeed timeless classics, and even some of the most dedicated movie connoisseurs have not been able to get a good quality print for their viewing/collection. Restoring these films to their glory would definitely serve as priceless gifts for all the generations of movie fans to see & cherish. This article may add some credibility to your negative image. Over time, you have gained a notorious distinction by writing unwieldy articles as well as biased & baseless movie reviews (rare exceptions are there like Housefull & Bcompany which indeed deserved 1 star). Moreover, whatever you write is marked with your twisted & vocab heavy english, which often makes it difficult for the mango people (Aam junta) to comprehend.
Rediff visitors are fed up of senseless articles, and more sensible ones like this one would surely spruce up its (as well as yours) image to a marginal extent. Keep up the good work..
And guys, this view is my personal, I am not here to start any discussion, I just want to give my opinion to rediff, not to attract attention of public. Please do not post needless replies. I did not seek anyone to agree or disagree. So, whatever disagreements you have, keep them to yourself.. dont bug me. There

not proper research. He claim Rafi to be at peak in 1952. That was Rafi's beginning with Naushad first time using his full range as playback singer. 60's was peak of Rafi. Rajasen uses big words and good english without real substance and proper research.

Why only hindi & Bengali?
by Vijay on May 12, 2010 11:58 AM  | Hide replies

Why only classics are from Hindi & Bengali? More classics are there made in down south...Especially in Malayalam,Tamil & Telugu ! Please mention "Ten Hindi classics craving digital restoration" & not "Ten Indian classics craving digital restoration"

hey vijay

dont get paranoid.chandralekha is on the list is it not? from my limited knowledge mayabazar should have been there too. and this is not a comprehensive list. its just ten films raja feels should be restored. there will be dozens of classics which deserve similar treatment.

u cant argue against any of the 10 classics on this list can u?
personally though, i find my dvd of nagorik to be of adequate quality
