Kamal Hasan is actually Kamala Haasan which means someone who face has the smile suggestive of a Kamalam (lotus)
Dashavtar was produced just to set a record of 10 roles of Kamal , The opening of film was good but rest was lame.
Anyway his real name is Kamlasan Iyer I don't know why he changed his Tamil-hindu name to Middle eastern sounding one. His real name means one who sits on Lotus throne.

He is not an Iyer. He is an iyengar. His father was a freedom fighter and follower of mahatma gandhi. so he named his sons last name as hassan

'Haasan' is the name of his father's close friend. He made 'haasan' the last name of all his children as a token of their friendship.

It sounds correct. Probably it explains the similarity like Kamalahaasan, Charuhaasan....right?

I think his real name was Kamalakshan. Mallu's call it kamalayude asanam. Right!
He holds the record for the most National Film Awards for an actor with four, three awards for Best Actor and one for Best Child Artiste. Moreover, Haasan holds a record nineteen Filmfare Awards - ranging across five languages, and also has the distinction of being the actor with the most number of films submitted by India in contest for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
