calling Kamal Hassan the best actor on the planet shows your limited knowledge about world cinema you moron. there are actors in india also who are leagues ahead of Kamal.

Titanic and Avatar-director James Cameron is the ex-husband of Kathryn Bigelow who directed 'The Hurt Locker' besides several others like 'The Weight of Water' and 'K-19', etc.

Looks like she finally managed to stand out on her own this International Woman's Day.

Or maybe they gave it so many oscars because A O SCOTT had threatened:

"If 'The Hurt Locker' is not the best action movie of the summer, I’ll blow up my car."

Glad for Sandra Bullock. She is an amazing actress ! I thought that either Avatar or Precious would get the Best Movie......but glad that Ms Bigelow was recognised.

I wonder if the Slumdog kids were watching & remembering their Red Carpet !

Why you need to be happy for that.
Avatar has best visual effects and it got that award. In the story line there was nothing new, so can't make it for that category !

It's not like Indian Filmfare award where awards are decided based on money collection record of the movie !!

Here''s why Hurt locker won ..
by Dona Paula on Mar 08, 2010 12:17 PM  | Hide replies

Let us first exclude the other pictures:

Avatar - Anti-american, Anti-capatalism, Anti-establishment, pro environmental etc. Not Good.
Blind Side - Too preachy.
An education - British teenage love story. We know how much the americans like the british

District 9 - South african apartheid tale with a far out theme. Too much for academy members to comprehend
Inglorious Bastards - Too hot to handle
Precious - African American story.
A serious Man - Frankly not as good other coen brothers films. No country for old men won last year
UP - Nice film except its animated.
Up in the air - Liberal and too main stream.Screenplay is nice though.

and Now The HURT LOCKER - Pro american, pro Iraq war, Keeping the troops happy. Woman Director (it's been a while since we saw that). By recognizing, the academy wants to send out a message that americans are the caretakers of the world. If you saw the film the british platoon were made to look like jokers.

I am enjoy a thought provoking film better than a commercial one. But I though HURT LOCKER was OVERRRATED and AVATAR derserved to win.

Avatar won the oscar (best visual effects) that it was entitled for.

About story, there was nothing new.
how can you expect it to win that award ?

You enjoyed the movie for visual effects or it's story ? If the same movie had made without visual effects , then would you think the same way ?

I too feel the same that The Hurt Locker is too overrated. It is more of a documentary than a movie.
Avataar has got a tremendous amount of perfection and technology in it.Avatar deserved oscars in multiple categories compared to The Hurt Locker

Mr. Dona, Actually its the reverse, Avatar was overrated and hyped movie. Technically it was excellent. But, Hurt locker deserved every bit of oscar. It keeps you in the edge of the seat for 2hrs. Hurt Locker completely dependents on performance & screenplay. Avatar was compeletely depending on Technology.

by okroal on Mar 08, 2010 12:12 PM  | Hide replies

IT IS VERY HARSH ON JAMES CAMERON ... AFTER WORKING HARD ON EPIC LIKE AVATAR FOR MORE THAN 12 YEARS ... HE CAN NOT WIN ... THE HURT LOCKER ..IS ALSO A VERY GOOD MOVIE ... BUT AVATAR ..HAS GOT FAR MORE BETTER THAN THE HURT LOCKER ... I REALLY FEEL BAD FOR JAMES CAMERON .... ANYWAYS ... AVATAR HAS ALREADY BECOME .... GREATEST OF ALL TIME IN THE HEARTS OF WORLD AUDIENCE ...

On women's Day "Kathryn Bigelow" won main categary awards. What a gift for her!! Congrates. "The hurt locker" deserves each and every bit of oscar. It was quite a face off with ex-husband James cameron.
