From 175 cr 0- deduct 20% entertainment tax - it comes about 140 . Decduct Theatre rentals about 15 crs (1800 print released). the net amount 125 crs.
Now fox bought the right at 99 crs and print an publicity another 18 crs. expenditure aproc 120 crs.

Just because a film has done great business does not mean it is hit, it should have good content too. Hit film means '3 Idiots' becoz it is a wonderful film & also did excellent record-breaking business all over the world. MNIK is average becoz the content & acting is so-so & only overseas collections are gr8 but in India it is a dud.
Road to Sangam was a great movie, so does the movie Rann... People don't like to see serious movies. I like the movies based on merit/ acting and watch them time n time irrespective of reviews or box office verdict.
Atithi is a great movie, very well executed and some superb acting. We are blessed to have actors like Nasirudeen Shah, Anupam Kher, Om Puri and Paresh Rawal. While first three of them has a tag of doing critical/ serious kind of movies, Paresh Rawal has been easy pick who have kind of tried to merge variety of roles which also brings in audience to movie halls. He has been able to merge these critical out of box type movies with main stream bollywood films, which is great.
I watched Road to Sangam and then Athithi in last 2-3 days. Both were different film, one touched the heart and another tickled. He is real actor and we are blessed to have some directors in younger generations who are not afraid to make films out of general bollywood masala... examples are A Wednesday, 1971, Road to Sangam and now Athithi... in recent times.
Atithi tum kab jaoge? is one of the best movies of recent times. I know most of the people won't agree but I would keep it ahead of even 3 idiots. Reason is that the story was fresh and a healthy comedy with closure including a great message to society and that everybody should respect elders even if their habits are not acceptable to us.
