still now?
by sairadevishah on Jun 27, 2010 09:12 PM

still now Mammootty is the elder brother of Prithviraj??? thank god, he was not the latter's son or younger brother... I respect Mammootty and Mohanlal are greatest actors.. And malyalam was contributing the most wonderful stories in the earlier ages..(that's cos of those blessed directors and writers mainly).. But now this industry is in a pathetic stature.. like somebody told, they are following what tamilians gave up long ago.. There are no substitutes for co-actors like Thilakan, Jagathy, Venu, Innocent, Lalitha, Sukumari etc..No such stories are coming..Only one-man shows are happening..or third rate mimicry..that's it,, And Mammootty and Mohanlal are still sticking to unsuited roles of young charming guys romancing with young gals(not even half to their age)..they have to change..

malaylam cinema is still the best of the Indian lot
by ooh scooter on Jun 23, 2010 05:53 PM

Despite the downward spiral in storytelling, Malayalam cinema is still, by far the best of Indian cinema in terms of characterization, storyline, staging and performance.

Check out recent films like "Brahmaram", "Paleri Manickyam" or even a "Veruthe Oru Bharya" to name a few, for sterling perfomances and storylines.

Even an average mallu film like "Samastham Keralam P.O" is more entertaining than anything from elsewhere. In terms of masala, "Twenty:20" or "Puthiya Mugham" beats the best of Tamil or Bollywood. And this is all delivered with much lesser resource.

Pls note, this is not a North vs South thing, cos I'm neither; but also bcos on average I watch more Bollywood films but decidedly the majority of them are poor fare (the last one worthwhile was 3 Idiots).

The list explains the pathetic state of malayalam cineam
by ravi shankar on Jun 23, 2010 04:27 PM  | Hide replies

The so called success of the aforementioned movies exemplifies the pathetic state malayalam cinema is in. success of paappi appacha nd pokkiri raja can only do harm rather than helpin the industry. Happy husbands did hav som comic elements in it, thanks to no entry.

Nayakan, despite rave reviews, I found laggin. never got a chance to see TD Dasan myself, but read a statement by Sibi Malayil, that malayalam film industry's future lies in the success of movies like TD Dasan.

It was better to hav no BO Hits rather seein these craps forkin out money. movies like pokiriraja, alexander the grt, paappi appacha, r a real malice to ny movie industry. Katha thudarunnu may b an exception.

Even after having an injury I went to watch this movie during the summer vacation all the way back from Delhi. If my legs had not been injured I would have run out of the hall during the movie.

Malayalam movie makers are once the best movie makers in India ,but gradually it is loosing its lusture ,most movie makers and producers thinks that Tamil movies are more profit making and turned Malayalam movie to Tamil style with most story having Tamil story link and actors, oce these season goes definitly Malayalam movie will go to its original golden age with movies showing rich Malayalam culture, excellent photography ,melodious music ,just the time will come ...we have to wait ,
