Are you kidding? A. R. Rahman is really one of the best. He is musicial genius. his music is unique unlike any other musician. Jai ho may not be his best but jai ho is still a good song. dil se soundtrack is classsic and one of his best. Delhi 6, Rangeela & Taal are other examples of AR Rahman's greatness.
on the basis of hit songs and most important aspect - MELODY... 1. rd burman 2. sd burman 3. shankar jaikishan 4. jatin lalit / ar rahman 5. madan mohan 6. naushad 7. op naiyyar 8. salil chaudhary 9. laxmikant pyarelal 10. anil biswas

Yeah.. and you probably think Gavaskar is the best batsman.. Gramaphones are the best for music.. Amusing people..
'Jai ho' is the worst song rahman hs ever composed n he also knows that... he got oscar for this song jst bcz the film SM got popular n won many oscars else no one wud hv remembered this rubbish song... rahman is a overhyped composer n every time got awards whn other composers wr the deserving winners...
filmfare is the most farzi awards... if rahman hd got nominations with the great RD Burman, SD Burman n shankar jaikishan , filmfare wud hv awarded rahman... he is a gud composer bt particularly after Lagaan , his music is a big let down (although Delhi 6 is an exception)...
he mst do smthing different n melodious, after all he is most overhyped, over rated composer ever...
And one more contradiction. There were very two very strong Indian nationalist performances, one towards the middle of the show with colours of India's flag flashed in the auditorium and the other a rendition of Vande Mataram -- the encore act after the elaborate grand finale of the song Jai Ho!
I am not opposed to Indian nationalist sentiments, but those tend to work much better in India. There were a couple of people holding an Indian flag at the venue, but Rahman should not forget that his popularity crosses beyond Indian Americans. There were certainly a number of his Pakistani, Bangladeshi and other South Asian fans at the concert. He risks losing their support and ticket revenues if he makes the shows very India-centric.
Mr Aseem need to take a permanant break... What all the rubbish he wrote.
Rahman himself would agree that jai ho was not his best and oscar judges were deaf.He is a luck laced composer whose strength is use of technology and converting sufi music to sufi pop.Bombay industry has lost all its stalwarts and void is being filled by people like Rahman etal Scanning all over I feel Ilaya raja is still the best Those who want to diagree (lots of them) please listen to the interludes in PAA song sung by Amitab I can quote only one for hindi audience lots lots for southern listerners Any serious student of contemporary film music will agree

ar rahman is good along with illaya raja, and the amitabh song in the paa is the worst. paa is an overrated shit movie. vidya balan didn't act well, any actress could have done her job.
This is all media created hype. Agreed that his music was initially refreshing in roja and Bombay. But after that everything sounds the same. He can never equal upto SD Burmand and RD Burman

he can never qual to r d burman because him, he doesn't copy music from the west. rd burman is music chor.
Looks like Aseems main intention is to say that Rahman is not as popular as Madona is USA. Well, it is true that Madona is really popular in her own land and outside too. But whether Rahman is popular is USA or not, can we ask him a question about how many people know Madona in India or how many will be really willing to go to her concert in India. She may be known to few millions in India (people of our excess population in cities). And Aseem may say, that Madona's concert in India would have attracted more brown faces rather white faces in Mumbai or Bangalore.. Well that is also true, because Indians are there everywhere, and they do show up on Madona's concert in America as much as in India and Americans are not like that. Go and ask an average American about the world map, and they know only America. And India is far better this way, when more number of Indians compared to Americans, know about the world. The point is not about who is more popular. That point is who is recognised. And Rahman is probably the first Indian composer recognised worldwide and the guys who gave Oscar and Grammy awards were not majority of them Indians!!!
Among all regional film industries, only Tamil film industry has produced musical stalwarts - A R Rahman, Illayraja to name a few. Bet people cant even name music directors from Kannada or Telugu film industries.
