@neha: Lady! i do not need to see a Doc for having a different opinion on some film stars.I am not so awed by them and i've got life!...Read my comments ..i never compared frieda whith anyone....All film stars are overhyped no matter how gud they are...thats how it works in entertainment industry..frieda is no exception.i still stand by what i said "i do not think frieda deserves all this abuse".

come to rediff messageboards to see indian prejudice in all glory
by joe tmp on Jun 14, 2010 07:57 PM  | Hide replies

beauty is in the eye of the beholder. she is beautiful to western eyes hence they cast her. she is not good looking by indian standards hence probably wont get a lead role in bollywood.

but what is the pblm. we should be happy if someone makes us proud on the international scene instead of behaving like crabs trying looking for excuses to pull someone down. why cant we be just happy for her.

the truth is most of the stuff on rediff (incl movie reviews) is unabashed prejudice masquerading as commentary – north vs south, hindu vs muslim, indian vs goras etc. As per which vedas does one declare "she is not good looking from any angle". From a lot of "she is not an indian" type comments, it appears this prejudice against frieda is simply because she is a xtian.

Now you are bringing excuse of religion as well. Does any one care what is the religion that Jeniffer Aniston follows. Does any one have any doubts that Beyonce Knowels is Beautiful? Glamour world is about Glamour period. If being xtian is an issue then how do you explain John Abraham being successful and liked by so many? Stop worrying about religion, get a life.

fair point to you. i'll be glad if i'm wrong. but one must wonder what a comment like 'she is not an indian' implies, a charge rountinely made against muslims on these forums.

the average indian u meet on the street does not deal such prejudice unless whipped into a mob frenzy - its the educated, literate professional Indian sitting behind a computer desk who spews this prejudice.

Racicist Hypocritic Indians
by Tethys on Jun 14, 2010 08:32 AM  | Hide replies

The messages below clearly reflect the racicist hypocritical mindset of Indians....
Agreed Freida is one movie old and yet to showcase her acting skills but to pull her down this way based on her looks is nonsense...
Actually Frieda's success is a class case of how Indians judge people based on skin color..and find dark skin not so appealing..whilst half of India is filled with such dark skinned people....
Invariably all actors and models need to be fair skinned in india...and we cannot tolerate anybody who isnt so....what cheap mentality..and on top of it we call Australians, Brits...etc as racicists..atleast they call outside people names while we do it for our own citizens....
Infact Frieda's success in west is a slap on the face of all such hypocritic Indians and I hope she never comes back to a place which judges her based on her skin colour...
Personally I found her dress sense and demeanour in red carpets more classy than one Ms.Ash blowing kisses at 37....huh

Dark or not, Freida is not a symbol of beauty from any angle and that's a fact you need to digest first. Every country has some kind of racist people, so lets not worry too much about it. It will stay that way for long time. Frieda receives backlash for being part of a movie that show India in poor light. While poverty and filth in India is truth of the day that's not the only thing exists, however movie selectively focus only on negative aspect India has. If and when Freida becomes part of project that makes people forget her role in negative movie, people will move on and appriciate Frieda, till than relex.

Americans praise any one and everyone, they praise their kids for passing from one class to the other. They even call that graduation, gimme a break!

Indians are more realistic, they call a spade a spade, Thats why its a great culture.

Not really my remark, friend.

This is the remark of Khushwant Singh, Lord Mackaulay and Winston Churchill. There may be numerous other famous people who might have remarked about the thieving Indians !

And dont you think that, by constantly ranking in the range of 75th to 95th in the Global corruption perception index, Indians really have proven themselves as thieves and tolerant to thieves ??

Err, you dont know or have heard about the Tranparency International or it's Global CPI, do you ?? Well then, read about it and you will find out about how corrupt Indians really are !!

I stand by your word. Yes indeed 99 per cent of indians are having corrupt mentality. The day begins with as to whom I should cheat today and ends how many have been cheated and whats my booty?
Office boy travels by bus and claims auto fare. Car driver fills 30 ltrs of petrol and bills for 40 ltrs. Manager travels by auto claims car fare. Employer does not pay bonus but claims to have paid to all staff. They justify their act comparing with others who are more corrupt.

Everyone in this country is corrupt and this mentality has to change.

Yeah jump to the US and Europe for any comparison and reveal the typical Indian's inferiority complex vis-a-vis those countries !

And as for the corruption in the US and Europe, do you have any idea how they rank in the Transparency International's CPI ???? And do you have any idea about how the surveys for these rankings are done ? About what representative sampling or statistical analyses mean ??

Any idea ??

She is not great actor, she is not pretty, she is ugly. these are the statements we have been making all our lifes, we do it for kids, friends, enemies, strangers. We always try to crush the confidence of budding human being.

This is the fundamental reason why our Indian kids have no confidence in facing world, even person next door. No confronting skills, no nothing

Think from her perspective , every time she walks in b4 a crowd, initimidating. for God sake lets begin encouraging our kids atleast future generations. Dont mock at people without even knowing who they are.

this is the reason why even India's 25 year girl cannot face 5 year old US kid. Even our NRI parents do this.

VERY GOOD COMMENT.

WE, INDIANS, OUR CULTUREI ON WHICH WE PRIDE SO MUCH DOES NOT TEACH US TO APPRECIATE THE SUCCESS OF FELLOW HUMAN BEINGS. WE CONSTANTLY LOOK TO BRING DOWN FELLOW INDIANS. THE RICH DONT DO AS MUCH TO HELP THE POOR ASSAY GATES OR BUFFET. PHILANTHROPY IS NOT IN INDNAN GENES.

WESTERN CIVILIZATION, NO MATTER HOW MUCH CRITICIZED ATLEAST RESPECT FELLOW CITIZENS. THEY DONT BRING DOWN OR ARE JEALOUS.

LOOK AT AMERICA HOW PEOPLE GREET UTMOST STRANGERS WITH SO MUCH COURTESY...

WE INDIANS NEED TO SHED THE BAD PART OF OUR CULTURE.

Absolutely! Only in India (especially in forums like this) we see people writing about other people about their look, colour , religion etc., This trend is not appreciated anywhere in the world. Appreciate other people for their contribution in their chosen field of work. They have nothing to do with their looks or appearance. It is genetic!

You should understand and appreciate that other people have their own opinions.
If some people think this woman is ugly, that's their own opinion and they are entitled to it.
Why do you think everyone should agree with you just because you think she is beautiful ? Not everyone is jealous of her success and trying to pull her down or whatever.
People like you always blame Indians and their attitude for everything.
There are good and bad people in every country.
Personally, I think this girl is quite plain looking and not a great actress either. I cant imagine her getting work as a result of her beauty or talent. She probably has very good connections.
Anyway, hope she does well in Hollywood and makes a great career for herself.

She may be ugly, and looks like a bakery girl but do we have a right to call her so. Are we all good looking? Are our relatives good looking? How do we feel if some one criticize our looks and behaviour? So there are times when you have to keep your opinions to yourself.
