Tharoor is 100% correct. Indian movies are catapulting the masses by motivating them. Earlier before 70s, this role was played by written literature. But no more so. In my school days, we used to study Hindi literature. I remember a famous saying by Munshi Premchand that SAHITYA SAMAAJ KA DARPAN (mirror) hai. In his contemporary period, Munshi was right. But now that reverred role of literature has long been hijacked by the Indian movies. The dramatics, dialogue, mannerisms, action, drama and most importantly music has given the Indian cinema a pan-world appeal accross the races and religions.
