it was a good emotional scene, but ...was there a need to say.."i will not commit suicide"...I think we did have an overdose of suicides in the movie...

Anamika,
U surely have a real tardy sense of humour, I must say.
Pray elaborate what in the scene did amuse u? because if you laughed most at the scene without any specific reason then sweetie we are worried about your parents.

IT was a comic scene- typical bollywood masala. Till then the father was against. The next moment he is buying new camera for his spineless son. What BS? Madhavan was more convincing in Alaypayude (Saathiya)while talking to his father about his future career plans. In this movie- neither Aamir nor Maddy look anywhere close to a collegians age! Two uncles in the midst of students. They should have justified their age somewhat like SRK in Mainhoon Naan.

If you knew what was going on in their minds, the pressure to succeed, the humiliation that you could not prove yourself, and let down your parents, etc, you wouldnt say this!

@ Anamika, " haven't we all gone through that"? .... Really?????
So let me guess you must be an IAS officer or Medical practitioner from AIIMs, or engineer from IIT??? if you are none of the above.. then please dont be a retard say that you have gone through.
Because you definately havent. I dont think you are types who has been obsessed and aggressive enough to follow only 1 path, 1 destination in life.
Take a moment and look back at your achievements and THINK whether you really gave your 200%. if the answer is NO then you havent gone through "that".

dude those who comitted sucide were not in the right mental state.....a movie has nothing to do with it!!!
I would say this way that Sholay became hit beause it was the time of Dakus age but 3 Idiots has become hit because it is the prime time of IDIOTS page.
sholay made even the kids a matured audience..and 3 idiots has made even the most matured audience a child...gimme sum sunshine gimme sum rain..gimme another chance i wanna grow up once again

I agree with you on that! Sholay was lucky to be a hit and extremely fortunate to have been so successful. But, 3 Idiots is a truly deserving hit. People who compare its class with some bakwaas movie like sholay must be truly INSANE! Aamir and Maddy rock!!!

Its not box office that counts. There will be lot of people who gonna stop putting pressure on their child after seeing 3I and TZP. They may see movie in cam rip and so on.

sholay was an iconic film, a pathbreaker, a pioneer in its time. 3I is basically munnabhai cleverly retold.

And do you think there is a "message" in Sholay that we all missed, unlike in 3 Idiots?
1) When they compare the box-office performance of a new movie with an old movie, they adjust for inflation. The comparison is not based on the 1 Rs ticket of Sholay.
2) Sholay is a classic now. But when it released in 1975, it was declared a flop. It took a while for it to catch fire and even then no one thought it would become such a huge hit.
Classics are not decided within the first 3 weeks of their release. It takes a lot longer.
can not come close to it..forget going ahead..Check the value of ticket and the value of rupee at that time..Sholay is SHOLAY...Ask Ramesh sippy He will tell u in correct node..how many people got the dialogues by heart..none..?
Maddy has a right to his opinion, but that does not mean it must be true ! No movie can or will match Sholay !! It had been a lifetime hit !! If it is released even today in these multiplexes, it will pose a strong competition to any of these new movies ! (This again is my opinion and I cannot change it just bcz someone else feels differently )
