Grow up and give something extra..
by pravin wadikar on Jan 08, 2010 06:56 PM  | Hide replies

Dont earn money by fooling others. This movie does not worth 240 C. You may be somewhat right with MBBS but you are not somebody who can pinpoint our education system. We are ahead in the world with our technical fundamentals only i.e. that is come from rigourous efforts from our teachers and you moenylenders does not understand these small things. Churchil was also right once in world war but he can not decide east direction for sun. Please be in your shoes.

Pravin.... I guess u should think both sides of coin..... in the movie its clearly shown that students cant take burden, If u have a kid then u should check with ur kid that wat he want to be, he might not be able to answer it but if u ask him wat grade u get in ur class , he might say it promptly coz now a days student just study for grade, all students are not sharp, some can take this pressure but some cant, so pressuring students like this just make them frustrated inside, and we parents think that they will cope up with other scholars.... from the time of birth to his death, a child every second lives his life under pressure, if a poor then to survive, If rich then to become more rich,
The bottom line is we should not compare our child with anyone as every child is spl and got its own style to understand things, there are people like chatur and there are people like rancho in real world also..... so I like the message wat Raj kumar ji has given in his film and i m very inspired by it... This feeling was with me for long time, i want to give my example, in my collage days i never understood Chemistry and always failed in that subject, but i was strong in Maths as i understood it very well, this was never been understood by my Chem professor and so i was not able to finish my Chem exams till date.. which i regret but i still cant understand that becoz the explaination was texted all the time and i never understood so i think education system must be changed..............

Pravin I can understand you point and frustration in your above tread, but I have done my engineering from a reputed college and got goog grades too. Later on the base of that degree I came to US. I agree that the degree helps but the point is the teaching method that is used to give the knowledge is not right.....and I support that. The reason I support is simple.....as you said we are ahead in the world....please explain how.....we Indians in India or abroad are just working for some company....how many of us has reached even at a managerial position in US firms.....they see us as a educated work force, thats all.....We are no were near to them when it comes to starting up business or do something out of the norm......and thats were they differ from Indians.....I have done my M.B.A in US and I have really like there way of teaching and also examination.........you don't have to learn by heart each and every line from the book.....and may be thats why those countries are much ahead of us..........sorry but thats how I feel.....there is a urgent need to change our education system.

I agree. Let's leave the movie and the commercial aspect aside for now. Think about the time in school where you were given lesser grades for not writing an answer verbatim as it was in your science textbook. Even during my engineering days, I hardly have known anyone who actually knew what a semiconductor is, they definitely knew the formulae though. Practicals were a joke and none of us were ever given a circuit board and soldering machine in hand. Am sure 90% of most engineering students would narrate the same story. That's what am talking about and in that sense I think the movie did a good job of demonstrating it.

Having done engineering in one of the better colleges in Bombay and having interacted with a thousand others I can absolutely concur with the movie. Agreed we are ahead but who is that we? Definitely not me and most likely not you (because I haven't heard your name ever until now :-) ). It's only a selected few.

Wow, a smart aleck. Mr. Dubhashi, the problem with you correcting a small english error exactly shows whats' wrong with your thinking - and no movie is going to correct that. The Japanese are worse in their English skills, but they do not take cheap pot shots at each other. For god's sake, English is not *anyone's* native tongue in this country. Just understand the underlying meaning of what he has written! He's certainly right about the pretense of the film-makers trying to spread some "grand" social message through the film. If that was the case, Mr. Hirani and the producers would not have "bumped up" the prices of tickets in multiplexes on the release date. This is a purely commercial enterprise, make no mistake about it.

Perfectly said Ganesh. It is just a commercial venture with entertainment value. Enjoy the movie, absorb whatever u like in the movie, and get on with it. It cannot be construed as a great comment on the indian education system.

Guys we as in the HR dept in a Co in the US for sometime and their managerial guidebook was very clear that Asians, Hispanics, Muslims and Africans should not be promoted beyond mid managment. We are just milk cows for them, after you go dry you are slaughtered

What nonsense! Lies!! I have lived here in the US for a long long time. Such a rule book would land that company poorer by hundreds of millions of dollars through a lawsuit! What nonsense are you writing. I find Asians (especially Indians) in senior positions in increasing number of companies. Dont just keep expressing your paranoia as a fact! How did Indra Nooyi become CEO of Pepsico, and Vikram Pandit CEO of Citibank?

Very true...I worked there after my MS for some years but observed even a very senior, efficient , value adding and almost indespensible engineer was at par with some american jerk who did his majors in biology and then did some course (no degree) in Mech. engg. were at par. even though that american kid was a nonsense and lacked knowledge.

Dude, it is in India that every application has a column for Religion, Caste etc. Here in the US they dont ever ask you to write your religion or Caste. Even the date of Birth is not asked!

I agree. 3 Idiots is one of the worst movies I have seen recently. Im probably one of the biggest admirers of Aamir Khan's work and this has been a big letdown. I dont think hes necessarily to be blamed as its not his story/direction, but, I would've expected him to be more sensible in his selection considering the previous movies he has done.
