Painstaking & laborious watch
by Nitinnam on Mar 01, 2010 11:51 PM

The movie is a painstaking watch. The dialogues are repetitive & mundane & there is no big plot actually. If the idea of the filmaker was to show a realistic love story, then i guess he hasn't succeeded in keeping the audience glued to the happenings .There are only a handful of scenes that captivate the audience other than a couple of songs from the maestro. The chemistry is sadly missing with both protagonists wanting to deliver subtle performance and not really conveying the true feelings.Simbu tries hard at being suave & simple, but his general disrespect towards women that comes out in most of his movies shows a glance here as well. Not sure whether he has made the cut from a crass hero to a class act & Trisha looks way too bored as a match. She looks old & tired, and her effort towards making the character a wee bit fragile & toned down goes overboard as her conversations with Simbu are hardly heard in the auditorium.
To sum up the major plus & minus of the movie:-
Plus:-
1. Music of A R Rehman is catching on fast
2. Basic premise of making a different & honest lovestory is good
3. Camerawork is excellent in the songs esp.

Minus:-
1. repetitive dialogues,mundane stuff
2. plot is weak & so is the buildup of the movie
3. Chemistry sadly missing, alhtough the premovie stills promised a lot,Trisha too old, lacking finesse,Simbu though has made a brave attempt but tends to remember his older movies occasionally, the pain, anguish, ecstacy of being in love hasnt comeon

Good movie, but not for everybody
by whogiveadamn on Mar 01, 2010 10:36 PM

It is a truly good movie. Unfortunately, it is not a movie for everybody. The way the movie is scripted is that a love story between two middle class Chennai-ites is shown from the point of view of a guy who has fallen for a complex girl. The girl is torn between her love and her family. When she is with him, she just can't help but love him. Their love is such a force that it overwhelms her. But she can't overcome the guilt of what she is doing when she sees her family. When she is not with him, all she can think about is the betrayal. Since the story is told through the guy's perception, it doesn't address the reasons behind the girls emotions. She just comes off as confused. If any of you have been in love with a girl who comes from a middle class background with strict parents, but is still a strong willed woman, you would thoroughly enjoy this movie. If you haven't met that girl, or if the girl you fell for wasn't someone who as this torn about her feelings, this movie would be very dragging. After reviewers complained about Vaaranam Aayiram, saying the movie lacks nativity, Gautham said that lives of people outside the village also needs to be explored. I think he has done a good job of exploring the lives of today's youth with this movie. A romantic guy, who just can't do anything but love her, and a girl, who is overwhelmed by her feelings and emotions, wonderful combination. However, I am sure most people are not ready for such a complicated heroine.

My friend. I never ever thought Chimpu could act. Out of my friend's persuasion I went to see the movie today.

Im in awe of the actor at this moment. silambarasan (as I would prefer to call him now) is a totally different person in the movie. New looks. he has put on weight, fuller cheeks, looks mature and acted so brilliantly natural. took all of us by surprise. do try to watch the movie.
